Electronic music continues its inexorable rise to the front page of music media, with barriers continuing to be demolished, from set styles to language. Eztain hails from Joodalup in the Perth area of Australia, the country very quietly launching a sustained campaign on the global dance stage. Avoiding the trappings of convenient pigeonholes, Eztain follows the trailblazing lead of fellow Australian, Flume, by exploring Future Bass and Electronica, as opposed to a more generic ‘House’ sound. The result is a multi-layered, technicolor vision of the world Eztain sees around him, as much biological as it is robotic.
Eztain (aka Jake Colson) was inspired to create his own music from a very young age, the inspiration coming via the unlikely form of free software given away with his breakfast cereal! Learning the guitar whilst at school to ground him in the mechanics of melody and structure, he was influenced by the likes of Deadmau5, K.Flay and Amon Tobin, music that, while relying on modern technology, could be created as easily in a bedroom as in a state of the art studio.
The road to his first release has been far from easy. Suffering from mental illness, Jake has used music production as a release – a way for him to communicate with an outside world that has sometimes appeared very alien. By creating his alternative sonic landscapes, he has found a way both to inspire and be inspired, his music is an exploration of his mindset and as a way of conveying emotion. From the guttural, Justice-like permeating bass of Asymmetrical, to the otherworldly seas of Enhanced Vanilla and the throbbing labyrinths of Iconoclast, this could well be one of the stand-out electronica releases of the year.

EnnieLoud – The Best I Can
Sweet without being saccharine, sentimental without being mawkish, ‘The Best I Can’ is a poignant reflection on the twin poles of femininity and the quiddities of being human and vulnerable. Framed as a series of statements to one’s weaker self, ‘The Best I Can’ is a slow bounce hinged around a minimal and addicting bassline. Written by Cassandra, whose R&B tinged vocal recalls the halcyon days of Lauryn Hill, the song was produced by band member Fabio Rizzoli, aka BeeOff, and recorded and performed by the band at the SAE Institute of London. Beau Vallis (Kelly Rowland, Pharrell, Lil Wayne, Snoop Dogg) assists Fabio with the mixing and masters it himself.
On ‘The Best I Can’ EnnieLoud has found a style that mixes neo-soul melodics with the ambient soundscaping of artists like Portishead and Goldfrapp, adding technical flourishes used by live DJs – drum and bass filters, synth arpeggiators and samples. The video was directed by Juanmi Cuesta and choreographed and performed by Italian danseuse Colette Gasparini. It follows a young girl as she dances with tireless passion in the immensity of a disused warehouse. ‘The Best I Can’ is a sincere expression of inner-strength, a genre-defying testament to self-definition in the face of very human doubts.

EnnieLoud is a trio of musical innovators from diverse points on the map who coalesced to craft their unique sound in the cultural melting pot of north London’s Wood Green. The plurality of their adoptive neighborhood is channeled into their music, which crosses cultural and generic boundaries to arrive at a sound that can loosely be defined as ‘alt-soul’. Street-dancing singer/songwriter Cassandra fronts the dexterous trio, which also includes Berlin producer/DJ BeeOff and multi-instrumentalist Ross. Together they have received international acclaim, co-writing ‘My Faults’ with top Italian DJ Vincenzo Callea, before getting the remix treatment from Grammy-winning producer Yoad Nevo (Goldfrapp, Sia, Moby).

Their first official single ‘In My Room’ was released in July last year and hit the blogosphere to much acclaim, receiving coverage in the UK, Mexico, USA, Canada, France, Belgium, and Kenya. Receiving its premiere on Clash, ‘In My Room’ went on to be playlisted across Spotify, hitting ten thousand streams in three weeks. It’s early days, but EnnieLoud is quickly proving themselves a vital and beguiling new act on the international circuit.

J Wanza and Jhay Endless are part of The Leftwing Movement, which is a charitable democratic music group, based in London and founded by Justin Benjamin in 2013. The group consists of a total of 11 Indie artists – all male, with individual talents and skill sets and an age range between 15 and 27.

Considered as genre-hoppers, the versatility of various artists within the movement suffices in pop, afrobeat, rap, hip hop and RnB.
The current single “Who We Are”, reflects this type of cross-genre collaborations that they are so well known for.
The group consists of a total of 11 Indie artists – all male, with individual talents and skill sets and an age range between 15 and 27.
Talented grime rapper, Jhay Endless stars alongside serial rapper vocalist Wanza and they lay down melodies, rap and a captivating hook from Garrett Raff, creating a fusion of pop, r n b, rap and soul.
The track was voted for a homepage feature on Reverberation last month.
Wanza delivers subtle vocal notes on the first part of the track, culminating in a complimentary rap by Jhay Endless, drawing attention to urban issues, appreciated self-worth, all enhanced by a piercing wavy cool delivered in high notes that echo far and deep!
Forthcoming releases are varied and spread across the artists or as a solo entity but there are around 80 unreleased multi-genre tracks.
