Flesh Eating Foundation is comprised of John E. Smoke (songs, noises, and shouting, deafness and blindness), The Juddaman (writing, voices, and noises) and Jules (axes and shouts), with Mash and Big Un joining on guitars when the mood is right. Co-founder John E Smoke is known as one of the few deaf/blind musicians working on the scene and can often be seen with his lovable noise-loving guide dog JJ.
The new video for ‘Futurelast’ features imagery from the band members’ hometown of Stafford, England, focusing on sites and buildings that, of course, aren’t lasting. They are falling into disrepair, neglect, and dereliction, including a former job center, a former Carnegie library, a former cinema and many former shops. “The video also ties in with some work I do with charities and groups trying to save old buildings and improve the culture in my hometown,” explains John E Smoke.
Flesh Eating Foundation has been described as electro punk, experimental electronic punk, alternative electronic. A key element of their sound is their use of homemade and circuit bend instruments. The electro crowd isn’t sure how to dance to their music and the headbangers don’t think they are metal enough. The punks quite like them though. It has been said that they make too many weird noises and they look a bit strange.
Their music has been influenced by Killing Joke, Alien Sex Fiend, Sigue Sigue Sputnik, Pigface, The Fall, Swans, Godflesh, Throbbing Gristle, Prodigy, Public Image Limited, Babyland, Skinny Puppy, Butthole Surfers, Ministry, Depeche Mode, and Atari Teenage Riot.
On the side they have remixed and collaborated with many like-minded artists who share their passion for experimental noise and horror. They have recently provided the score for the killer clown film ‘Crispy’s Curse’ while John E Smoke is a filmmaker in his own right. They’ve created official remixes for Curve, Angelspit, Junksista, Global Citizen, Tunnelmental, Jordan Reyne, Tony Byker, Afterchain, Kenji Siratori, Kunt and the Gang, Emen, Zeitgeist Zero, Alien:Nation, and Mr. Strange. You’ll also them on various compilations and Tribute albums for Coil and Ministry, amongst others.
‘We Are Fucked’ represents exactly where the band are at the moment. Two decades into a career and we see no reason to be any less angry, any less outraged at what is happening in the world,” says John E. Smoke. “We happen to have built lots of new synths and noise devices to help us express our feelings.”
All songs were written, recorded, produced and mastered by Flesh Eating Foundation in their own studio. Adam Probert supplies additional vocals on ‘Futurelast’. The digital release includes additional remixes by Inertia, Mr. Strange, Paresis, Alien:Nation and XSRY.
These fleshy tunes can be found digitally across online stores and streaming platforms, and the band also has shiny discs and black grooved wax available. ‘We Are Fucked’ is available on limited heavyweight vinyl – all formats can be ordered via Bandcamp. Ghost Station – Cast Away
Essex’s self-styled ‘smallest band in the world’ Ghost Station have released their new single ‘Cast Away’ on all download/streaming platforms. An infectious 3 minutes of beachy guitar pop, the new track showcases a knack for marrying sun-kissed harmonies to crunchy guitar sounds.
“The title was taken from the Tom Hanks film which had been on TV the night before I wrote the song, so desert island living was kind of resonating at the time,” explains Ghost Station main man and songwriter Matt Phillips. “It’s a reaction to the things that make up our daily routines – stuck on commuting trains, remembering passwords and boring bosses. I should point out that I’d be a useless companion on a desert island, as I don’t even like getting sand in my shoes on holiday!”.
Led by Phillips sublime songwriting skills (honed over almost two decades in music), Ghost Station could easily be described as a British Weezer or a 21st-century update of The La’s sunny indie-pop. Cast Away follows press acclaim for their previous singles Head For The Sun and Tear It Up, with The Sun hailing their “catchy melodies and jangly guitars” and interview coverage from Gig Slutz and Music Muso.

Piqued Jacks – Eternal Ride of a Heartful Mind
Tuscany-based alt-rockers, Piqued Jacks, share their second single, “Eternal Ride of the Heartful Mind,” from their third album, The Living Past, out now.
Impose Magazine premiered the song and the “powerful new single & cinematic video” today, raving, “If this video doesn’t move you, you might want to check your pulse,” adding, “It’s been a stereotype for a long time that Italians are a culture of romantics and are most passionate (maybe tied with the French), but this song proves that generalizations aside – these Italians understand the nuances of modern love and have hearts big enough to hold every definition of what it means to be lovers.”
Describing the video, Impose says, “We see a man take a pilgrimage into the forest, alone. We’re confused about where he’s going and why, until he reaches his destination: a protest against deforestation. People are chained to trees, as the demolition crew works around them. Holding signs, and full of emotion, the protests hold signs begging “don’t cut it! plant it!” We learn the man is in love with one of the protestor’s and has come to aid the cause.”
This drives home the band’s message, and they explain: “Mutual love is the refuge for every so-called “unusual” relationship, always surrounded by the skepticism and judgment of others; it’s a place where the couple’s intimacy is sheltered from doubts coming from the outside.”
The single was recorded and produced by Dan Weller (Enter Shikari, Young Guns) in an old house immersed in the natural beauty of the Tuscan hills. “Guys, that’s the front runner single,” Weller said, right after listening to the demo.
After a heavily alternative track like the album’s debut single from the forthcoming album, “Loner VS Lover,” the Piqued Jacks once again prove their versatility and maturity with an intense pop song that opens itself up to a wider audience, without losing the band’s distinctive sound.
The first draft of the song featured E-King (lead vocals, keys), Penguinsane (guitar), littleladle (bass) and ThEd0g (drums), but its development came about with HolyHargot on the drums, and with the expert contribution of Dan Weller. Everything was then highlighted by the mixing of Forrester Savell (Karnivool, I Am Giant).”
“Eternal Ride of a Heartful Mind” is an overwhelming piece of music and lyrics, whose title is inspired by Michel Gondry’s cinematographic masterpiece. There’s no intentional comparison of the song to the film, just a beautiful love story.
