An Interview with Wayne Hussey (The Week in #Indie Segment)

Our new Jammerzine Exclusive interview with Wayne Hussey was a real treat for me. Not only do I get to talk with, who I consider, an absolute pioneer in the music industry, but this interview becomes more a conversation than an interview, meaning Wayne is just a cool guy.

And today comes that conversation with the cool guy about his upcoming tour, with some dates including Evi Vine plus a surprise announcement about another tour guest, just added! We also discuss his new autobiography titled ‘Salad Daze’ as well as his time with The Mission and a number of other things. Get to know Wayne in this inciteful interview. Enjoy!

About Wayne Hussey & Tour Information
Wayne Hussey, best known as the frontman for UK alternative rock legends The Mission, has announced UK dates with London-based dark ethereal artist Evi Vine, as part of his European tour this coming autumn. Hussey will be touring in support of his long-awaited autobiography ‘Salad Daze’. Evi Vine is supporting her new album ‘Black Light White Dark’.

Evi Vine contributed backing vocals on The Mission’s 2016 album ‘Another Fall From Grace’, which hit the UK top-40 album chart. In 2016-17, she toured with Wayne Hussey and The Mission as the featured vocalist for their 30th Anniversary Tour.

Wayne Hussey’s book ‘Salad Daze’ was published on May 23 by Omnibus Press, chronicling Wayne’s life from childhood to his days with The Mission. A confessional, engaging and explicit account of life in the eye of rock’s storm conveyed with warmth, humor and laugh-out-loud moments, each chapter is accompanied by a specially curated playlist (via YouTube and Spotify) featuring artists as diverse as Elvis, Radiohead, Suicide, Frank Sinatra, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, David Bowie, Television, T-Rex, Cigarettes After Sex, Iggy Pop, and Telly Savalas.

“My autobiography was recently published and, to celebrate, I’m going out on a mammoth tour of Europe. Having been in solitary confinement and chained to a desk for the last year or so I thought it was time to go and make some music and be a little sociable with the world. Hence, I’m playing 50 plus shows in just over two months visiting the UK, Germany, Poland, Czech Republic, Holland, Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Austria, Hungary, Slovenia, Greece, & Sweden,” says Wayne Hussey.

“It’ll either kill me or make a man out of me at last. For the UK shows, I am delighted to have Evi Vine as my very special guest. Evi, who recently released a third solo album ‘Black White Light Dark’, sang onstage with The Mission in 2016-17 on our ‘Another Fall From Grace’ tour. I am also hoping to persuade Evi to maybe join me on stage each night to sing a few songs together. It was always one of the highlights of the Mission show for me when Evi and I got to perform one acoustic song, I always looked forward to that moment.”

Born in Bristol and raised as a Mormon, Wayne had his epiphany as a young boy while watching Marc Bolan and T-Rex on Top Of The Pops. Seeing his destiny in a blinding flash of glitter, mascara and dark curls, he decided he was going to be a rock star. After moving to Liverpool, Wayne eventually gained recognition and notoriety as the lead singer and principal songwriter in The Mission after putting in time as a guitarist with Sisters Of Mercy, Dead Or Alive, and Pauline Murray’s Invisible Girls.

Para Lia Releases ‘Hawk Hill’ EP on Jammerzine (The Week in #Indie Segment)

Para Lia has released their new EP titled ‘Hawk Hill’ on June 14th. Each track, simply put, is a well thought out yet spontaneous mix of grit and pop in all the right places with a beautiful combination of guitars and harmonies by thinking musicians for thoughtful listeners. This is alt-rock for the alt-mind.

About Para Lia
Melodic alternative/indie rock duo Para Lia have announced their new single ‘Hawk Hill’, which will release on June 14. A special Bandcamp edition also features two additional tracks: ‘Over It (single version)’ and ‘On My Way Home’.

“Hawk Hill is about my love/hate relationship with the small insignificant town of Falkenberg, where I spent my childhood. In German, ‘Falke’ means hawk and ‘Berg’ means mountain. But in fact Falkenberg has no hawks or mountains. The words ‘Hawk Hill Lane’ popped into my head one day while working on a guitar riff – it was a ‘Penny Lane’ moment, reminding me of the street I walked down every day to go to school. The vocals reflect today’s view on a town with the same fate as many small towns in rural East Germany,“ says René Methner.

“After big political changes in early 90’s Germany, many jobs were lost, youth moved out, schools and cultural centers closed, the cash flow stopped and small towns like Falkenberg fell dormant – kind of like a dead end street. You still can smell the fragrance of the past. Both Cindy and I grew up in Falkenberg and even lived on the same street, but we never met back then. We met years later and understood that we’ve walked the same streets and shared the same roots – a great good omen for walking hand in hand into the future.”

This new single release follows hot on the trail of their debut album ‘Soap Bubble Dreams’, a collection of 10 tracks that released in March 2019.

Para Lia is an indie/ alternative rock duo based in Cottbus (near Berlin), influenced by the rhythms and tones of ‘90s alt-rock and the synth density of ‘80s darkwave.. Their own sound blends melodic guitars, along with distinctive lead guitar and resonant synths.

Comprised of René Methner (all instruments and vocals) and Cindy Methner (backing vocals), their band name was born of their love for Greece, with para lia, (παραλία) meaning “coast” or “beach” in Greek – a name full of mystery but optimism, which both has history and evokes a balance of the masculine and feminine.

René Methner was raised in the eastern part of a divided Germany. Learning acoustic guitar from a young age, he finally hooked up with like-minded musicians upon moving to Cottbus for university, forming his first band and moving on to various other bands in the 90’ and 00’s – as guitarist, songwriter, and frontman.

While Methner began composing earlier, Para Lia first presented their music publicly in April 2018. “In 2017 I felt something inside musically and the inner need to let it out. So I started to write songs again… She makes me feel complete, we are soul mates. So it also feels in our music,” explains Methner. Around that time, Cindy came into his life and the couple transformed into a marriage and the musical tandem we know today as Para Lia.

“Para Lia is the most intimate music project I ever made. It is just everything I was breathing in with regards to music influences in the past few decades and my personal musical development over the years… what I ultimately breathe out is Para Lia. For me, a song is beautiful if it radiates something special. I love good melodies and a loud and crunchy wall of sound, combined with gentle harmonies,“ says René Methner.

Para Lia’s musical influences include bands like Sebadoh, The Notwist, Dinosaur Jr., Motorpsycho, Pixies, Interpol, and Neil Young, not to mention the garage rock sound of the mid-1960s from bands like The Who, Creation, and The Eyes.

Brocarde Releases ‘Last Supper’ Single (The Week in #Indie Segment)

London-based Brocarde has just released her new single Last Supper. Never one to focus on just one project, she also launches the Last Supper Clothing Collection (featuring lyrics from the single), Last Supper Photography Book and Last Supper photography ibook.

The track has been played on hundreds of radio stations all over the world including Kerrang! Radio and Planet Rock Radio – where it’s been played for over 5 weeks.

Brocarde always had a keen interest in performing and storytelling, but she didn’t launch her music career straight away. It was jewelry making that came first and it wasn’t long before word spread and her designs were spotted on Lady Gaga and Katy Perry.

Riding the crest of the wave, she spent every waking hour making jewelry in the hope that the company would give her a platform to launch her music. The bigger the company grew, the more its ethos escaped her. The brand did provide her with a platform to launch music, but not the kind that cuts into your soul, not the kind that made her feel alive. So before she drowned in a sickly, sticky vat of bubblegum, she decided to burst her own bubble.

She closed the jewelry company and never looked back. She went to LA to finish the album she had started and discarded every song that she had previously written. Brocarde made a promise to herself that she would never compromise her vision, and to never be filtered for commercial success. During her time in the studio, her love for making clothing continued.

At this point in her life she was unshackled, supercharged and sassy as hell, so she created a brand called Twisted Bitches. She created t-shirts with slogans like “Pussy Power” and “No F*cks Given”. Her designs were modeled by rainbow haired girls and embraced by the “alternative” community, after being stocked on Dolls Kill.

The first song Brocarde wrote in LA was “Last Supper”. The song and her vision for it existed long before she stepped foot inside a recording studio, and every tiny detail was alive inside her head, from the video concept to the clothing she would be wearing. The song tackles her personal experiences with celebrity culture. It begs the listener to question their relationship with social media and loved ones, and it asks the all-important question “What will you consume at your last supper?”.

The video, written and directed by Brocarde takes the viewer on an uncensored journey and tackles a host of controversial issues such as cannibalism, religion, and abuse of power, which leaves them open for interpretation and discussion. It’s a twisted fairytale with haunting darkness that’s usually only present in horror movies.

Brocarde approaches music in a different way. She is genre-less. She uses instrumentation to capture the emotion in her words. She straddles a multitude of worlds; her vulnerable, fragile side is captured by an orchestra of delicately plucked strings; her full throttle sass makes you stand up and take note, and her angst and frustration marry with the heavy metal undertones.

Brocarde is cinematic, captivating and an artistic storyteller.

Last Supper is out now and the second single and album will follow later in 2019.

K Michelle DuBois Premieres ‘Waves Break’ on Jammerzine (The Week in #Indie Segment)

Starting with a sonic mixture reminiscent of both Duran Duran and vintage The Police with a blissfully decedent assault of guitars and bass, K Michelle DuBois delivers an energetic juggernaut in the form of her new single titled ‘Waves Break’. The hook sneaks in like an army invading an unsuspecting country and just never lets up after. This song is pure power in the form of a pop song filled with caffeine and spitting our fire throughout.

As of June 28, 2019, ‘Waves Break’ is available at online stores, such as iTunes, and streaming platforms such as Spotify. Her 2018 ‘Harness’ album can also be obtained directly from the artist via Bandcamp, and her ‘Untold’ collaboration can be found via Lights That Change’s Bandcamp.

About K Michelle DuBois & ‘Waves Break’
Atlanta-based indie pop artist K Michelle DuBois presents an upbeat and fun summer single ‘Waves Break’. This is the first taste of her forthcoming album, which will be released later this year.

“We fully went for a surfy new-wave vibe with layers of percussion. Waves Break began with a fascination with fearlessness in people (especially females) who love surfing, skateboarding or any sport where they get beat up and dive right back in,” says K Michelle Dubois.

“The lyrics evolved to be metaphorical as well as staying on topic while blending in double-meaning wordplay – ‘I keep you close to my chest’ and ‘you know where the shark’s prey’. The instrumentation of Waves Break has an early Duran Duran, Bowie, Gang of Four vibes.”

This new single follows up her third solo release ‘Harness’, as well as the singles ‘Wild Weed’, ‘Orchid’ and ‘Love and Only Love’. DuBois also recently collaborated with Wales-based post-punk dreampop artist Lights That Change on the single ‘Untold’.

While most of DuBois’ solo output intertwines classic power-pop with 90s college rock, ‘Harness’ boasts a heftier sonic tone than her previous album ‘Astral Heart’ (2016) with its bouncy rhythms, jangly guitars and sing-song charm.

Based in Atlanta, GA, Dubois’ counts Blondie’s ‘Autoamerican’ and Divinyls among her influences, along with Stevie Nicks, Roxy Music, Flaming Lips, Grandaddy, and Fever Ray. DuBois’s live band includes Chandler Rentz (drums), Jim Prible (bass), André Griffin (keys) and Dan Dixon (guitar), who also recorded, produced and mastered this album at RCDC studio in Atlanta.

K Michelle DuBois got into music very young, building harmonies to pass the time during the family’s frequent road trips. DuBois began writing her own material as a teenager in Nashville after receiving a bass guitar for Christmas. She crafted her early songs on bass, a Yamaha synthesizer and a drum machine in her parents’ four-track studio, but a flood of creative possibilities came upon discovering open-tuning on acoustic guitar, thereafter solidifying her commitment to songwriting.

After forming her first band Ultrababyfat and releasing ‘Silver Tones Smile’ (1998), the group’s infectious pop-punk sound garnered national attention, leading to opening slots for numerous noteworthy acts Pavement and PJ Harvey, and a 2001 stint on The Warped Tour as one of the few female-led bands showcased in the festival’s lineup.

After the band disbanded in 2005, DuBois formed Luigi to explore her more progressive, art-rock leanings. After seven years together and ample critical acclaim, she re-emerged as a solo artist under the tempered guidance of producer Ben Price at Studilaroche, releasing her debut album ‘Lux Capone’ in 2012. DuBois also contributes vocals for Atlanta-based dream-gaze collective Parsons Rocket Project.

Klammer Releases ‘Being Boiled’ Single (The Week in #Indie Segment)

Klammer is a band with, not only a rich history in music but an even richer knowledge of music. They not only know what works, they are what works. And this is none more present than in their new single titled ‘Being Boiled’. With a thick beat, wonderfully decadent guitars, and the rich deep and pound vocals of Paul (Poss) Strickland leading the way, ‘Being Boiled’ is that special drive and sonic assault that give a rush of adrenaline to the brain while staying steady enough to remain in your mind long after that initial listen. We have a brilliant anthem for the summer.

‘Being Boiled’ dropped June 3rd, 2019, on all digital platforms, including Bandcamp and their official store (more links below).

About Klammer
Hailing from Leeds, Klammer draws on the members’ shared love for all things angular, dark, loud and melodic. Previously described as the love child of XTC and Gang Of Four, they offer an enticing contemporary twist on the post-punk attitude, blending elements of goth rock, punk rock, and darkwave, all with dark pop sensibilities. You’ll find plenty of hooks and dark and edgy broodiness coursing through their sound.

Formed by UK Producer Steve Whitfield (The Cure/The Mission/Jane Weaver) in 2014, they have already released 3 albums to great critical acclaim, with last years ‘You Have Been Processed’ receiving fantastic reviews across the board. The singles ‘Modern God’ and ‘Spiral Girl’ off the album, both received airplay on 6 Music.

Having consistently played up and down the country both as a headline act and in support of some big-name bands (including The Skids, The Undertones, Richie Ramone, Chameleons Vox, Penetration, and The Membranes), they have also played at Rebellion for the last two years and The Great British Alternative Festival. Klammer is intent on consolidating their position as one of the country’s finest live Post Punk acts.

An Interview with Gone Sugar Die (The Week in #Indie Segment)

Rarely does a band so young accomplish so much in as little a time span as the new Canadian/American super duo known as Gone Sugar Die. With their new upcoming EP titled ‘Blaack Heaart’ and their new lead single titled ‘Heartbreak Jewelry’, Gone Sugar Die have already cemented themselves as an act to follow.

Today I get to talk with both members of Gone Sugar Die Mike Hindert (The Bravery) and Patrick McWilliams (ex-The Cut Losses) about the odds of meeting and working together and their origins in earnest as well as their new music and where they are headed and much more. This interview captures this band at just the right moment because their future is secure. Enjoy!

About Gone Sugar Die
Gone Sugar Die is a smart but explosive dark romance between synth punk and indie pop. It’s the kind of collision that can inspire ethereal transcendence or ignite a disco. The guiding principle for Gone Sugar Die, aka Mike Hindert (The Bravery) and Patrick McWilliams (ex-The Cut Losses), is to make music the world can dance to.

These are pop songs built on a foundation of authenticity, energized garage rock style vitality, and genuine passion, all of it shot through with high-minded ambition. Imagine Crystal Castles and The Weeknd, in the pit together, watching The Sex Pistols. The duo’s debut recording includes the work of producer/guitarist Marshall Gallagher (Teenage Wrist, 3OH!3) and drummer Anthony Burulcich (Weezer, Morrissey, The Bravery). There’s enough imagination, adventurousness, and experience between the pair at Gone Sugar Die’s center to ensure enthralling offerings of dirt pop for many years to come.

Hindert is best known as the stylish and savvy bassist of indie darlings The Bravery, a band championed by The Village Voice, Rolling Stone, MTV, and the BBC. They were responsible for anthems like “An Honest Mistake” and “Believe,” songs that still resonate today.

As lead singer and keyboardist for The Cut Losses, McWilliams had an underground hit with “Spending Time On My Own,” which garnered 100,000 Spotify streams in 72 hours. The pair connected on their mutual love of darker new-wave icons like The Cure, The Smiths, and Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark. With Gone Sugar Die, they’ve created something new with a proper nod to the past and fresh urgency.

Tommy Down Drops ‘Superficial’ (The Week in #Indie Segment)

With a smooth groove and sometimes staccato-like rhythm within the lyrics, Tommy Down delivers a memorable track in the form of ‘Superficial’, which is steeped in melody and simply memorable in the aftermath. And now matter and antimatter collide musically with the help of Decca Records artist Rhys Lewis.

This dynamic duo chisel out ‘Superficial’ in a way that is anything but. This song is deep. Musically, creatively, maybe even spiritually on a guttural level. The chorus has such a lyrical delivery of the song title that it is actually still in my head. That is the mark of genius. When a song stays with you and becomes a part of you. That is more than superficial.

About ‘Superficial’
Produced by rising Decca Records star Rhys Lewis, ‘Superficial’ sounds like the brainchild of Nile Rodgers and Sade scoring a Boogie Nights sequel. Managing to tactfully balance its glossy velvet-toned nostalgic influences with a raw and stripped-back production approach, ‘Superficial’ sees Tommy Down analyzing the psychological perils of a generation addicted to selfies and social media. It’s all captured in the contradiction at the heart of its narrative: guy judges a girl for taking a selfie with him, yet harbors a desire to see himself tagged in it the next day.

Ultimately ‘Superficial’ navigates the complex, maddening, and circular logic of technological overthink by asking us if we’re even perhaps a little attracted to the idea of our own narcissism. Maybe the fact that we go into these things ambivalently makes us more woke anyhow? It’s three minutes of clever, concise and thought-provoking pop that puts Down both sonically and lyrically on a standout path. With Tommy starring as himself and his own conscience, alongside live bandmate and Cold Feet actress Sylvie Briggs, and Raffy Ellison, the accompanying video, (directed by Toby Harris), is a colorful, slick and tongue-in-cheek dramatization of the lyrics.

About Tommy Down
Tommy Down is the sharp-suited and incisive lyricist and frontman to Harker Moon. He started the project in 2015 with schoolmates Hal Briggs, Ben Phillips, Olly Jay, and Joe Caplin. The band peddles an uproarious blend of rock, soca, funk, and roots with a trademark relish for old-school feel-good vibes. Tommy has been writing music and recording since he was fourteen, and since leaving university a year and a half ago, has been dedicating himself to it fully. In that time, he’s already netted a few accolades and picked up a wealth of practical experience – winning an award for ‘Best Original Composition’ at the UK Open Mic Competition, for instance. He also started performing as the male vocalist for Bristol University Jazz Orchestra in 2015 and now gigs in venues across London including the Camden Assembly.

Tommy’s broad knowledge of musical styles and emphasis on innovative stylistic fusions make him one of the most interesting emerging British artists. >From London to New York he has also been forging some eminent collaborations this year, including Jeff Silverman, Charlie Perry (who helped produce Jorja Smith’s Lost and Found), and John Shave & Jason Pebworth from the Grammy-nominated “Invisible Men” – the hitmakers behind songs by Britney Spears and Rita Ora. Both as a bandleader and as a solo artist Tommy unequivocally shines, but it’s in the latter category that we’re seeing his unique artistry in its full resplendent glory.

Rayon Nelson Releases ‘Made of Gold’ Video (The Week in #Indie Segment)

It’s hard to write, much less record, a song that conveys true emotions. That’s why ‘Made of Gold’, the new track and video by Rayon Nelson, is so special. It conveys and expresses those times in our lives that we have all had. Times of loss and helplessness, when we feel at our lowest. Backed by creative genius both musically and lyrically, Rayon’s soulful voice and nuances really give experience to the lyrics and give the listener hope as well as heart.

About Made of Gold
Shimmering guitar lines and a pared-back arrangement serve as a backdrop to Rayon’s heartfelt confessions of failure and imperfection. ‘Made Of Gold’ chronicles those times when the wellsprings of our emotion overcome our flood barriers and overflow as we fail to uphold our own often fastidious psychological standards. “Hard times are no stranger to my door,” he sings, relating his personal struggle with our complicated and erringly human interior lives. It’s a richly layered song that thrums with the splendor of Rayon’s voice. Combining vintage and modern influences, ‘Made Of Gold is a haunting, soulful, and eminently relatable song which lays bare the touching contradictions at the heart of the human experience. It’s an impressive sleight of hand from an artist who is carving an original and beguiling space in contemporary music.

Often people think because you present yourself in a certain way, that you have everything together. Made Of Gold song attempts to show that even though these words that I try to live by are ‘made of gold’, I somehow still fall in doubt and I’m most certainly not perfect. I’m a closed person in general so this EP contains some personal songs, and I guess its a way of people getting closer to me.

About ‘Closer’ EP
Written and self-produced by Rayon himself, and mixed and mastered by Alberto Coin, Closer is a set of songs that draws listeners deep into Rayon Nelson’s artistic world. Confessional and tender in tone, the four songs that comprise the EP meditate on the concept of identity from four distinct viewpoints. From the soulful and relatable psychological interiority of lead track ‘Made Of Gold’, Rayon lays himself open. Following that, there’s the familial ‘Granny’ – a poignant thank you message to his grandparents, which he contrasts with ‘Where Were You?’, a heartfelt message to an absent father. Closing with the expansive and ambitious ‘Freedom’, Rayon steps outside of his persona and empathizes with the global oppressed. By his own admission Rayon is a guarded figure, but through the humbling honesty of ‘Closer’ he lays himself bare, and in so doing he reveals himself to be a relatable, charming, flawed, but also an incisive lyricist with an inimitable new sound.

EP Track Listings

  1. Made Of Gold
  2. Granny

About Rayon Nelson
Lauded for his captivating and soulful vocals, Rayon Nelson has achieved remarkable status for an independent artist. With eclectic influences from Jamaica, London, and Suffolk, his music presents an inspirational and compassionate lyricism, set often to a sonic backdrop which encompasses a broad fusion of styles. Shaped by early exposure to an array of different music such as reggae, old school gospel, and soul from artists including Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff and Lauryn Hill, Rayon Nelson’s work is a matchless synthesis of the styles and vibes that formed him. He was shortlisted for Glastonbury festival, performed at Isle Of Wight Festival, and often featured on BBC Introducing and BBC 1Xtra whilst remaining unsigned. His latest EP ‘Yung Solo’ has attracted over 380k streams on Spotify, and has been featured in numerous blogs such as Hilly Dilly while attracting major industry interest. After a one year hiatus, Rayon is now releasing his Closer EP and intends to firmly make his mark in the music industry this year.

Cabinet of Millionaires Release ‘Theresa, Vol. 3’ (The Week in #Indie Segment)

Cabinet of Millionaires gives multiple doses of political commentary with their new single(s) titled ‘Theresa’. With British Prime Minister Theresa May stepping down on June 7, this set of singles couldn’t have been timed better.

Each version of the track is unique in its own right as we get samples of EDM, Dance, and Grind from different producers lending their ear. While I gravitate more towards the original, there is something for everyone with the beat sustaining in each version and the hook redressed and sounding good as well.

On June 7, ‘Theresa, Vol. 3’ will be available for digital download across online stores such as Apple Music and streaming platforms like Spotify. It can already be obtained via Bandcamp with all profits going towards supporting food banks.

About Cabinet of Millionaires
British electronic act Cabinet of Millionaires presents the new EP ‘Theresa, Vol. 3’, a rather politically-charged song set to release via Bandcamp on June 7, the very day that Theresa May said she would stand aside as British prime minister. The general release date for other online platforms is June 14.

Hailing from Huddersfield, Cabinet of Millionaires bring a scathing attack on the austerity policies of the UK’s Conservative Party government, referencing the Windrush scandal, the Grenfell Tower tragedy, and failure to take in enough refugees (whilst selling arms), not to mention the dismantling of the country’s National Health Service.

Band spokesman Dave C said, “Theresa’s resignation speech was painful. Austerity is clearly NOT over and the Government’s lack of response to Grenfell was actually pretty shocking, NOT something to be proud of. We hope you like the package. It’s honest. We’re not saying we are political because it’s fashionable all of a sudden. The lyrics are straight to the point. No sitting on the fence. We want the Tories out and a general election NOW!”

Featuring resplendent punchy beats, sci-fi loony tune hooks, dub basslines and gospel-tinged soul-rock vocals from Pat Fulgoni, this five-song release includes the original version of this track, along with several remixes, including from USUK, a collaboration between Leeds-based award-winning Allen & Heath sponsored DJ/producer Mark EG and Chad Stegall, an American piano composer and synth addict.

Renowned producer Steve Whitfield (The Cure, The Mission, Terrorvision, Klammer) also delivers a lush Donna Summer-meets-Underworld dance remix, in addition to contributing guitar on the original version of ‘Theresa’. Zion Train’s remix of Theresa is a brutal takedown of Theresa May and her Government’s austerity program.

Whether you call it agit-house, electro-rock or social disco, Cabinet Of Millionaires is an uncompromising project with a ballsy soulful political message and infectious grooves. According to Eddie Gordon of BBC Essential Mix, this is “the kind of dance music that DJ’s like Andy Weatherall would turn people onto or the Talking Heads would delight the New York uber-cool clubs with”.

The video for the ‘Theresa’ original mix is inspired. Shot in and around Manchester, it stars Clay Whitter playing a homeless busker who tries to survive on the streets by busking with a useless Theresa May puppet!

Prior to 2019, Cabinet of Millionaires released the singles ‘Satan’s Horses’, ‘Serve Me’ and ‘Cabinet Of Millionaires’, receiving radio support from the likes of Eddy Temple Morris and Nemone (BBC Radio 6), as well as various American college radio stations.

Vocalist Pat Fulgoni has a fantastic raw soul voice. He sings across a wide range of genres including his own live blues band, even massive Drum & Bass artists like Camo & Krooked, Teddy Killerz, Bcee, Logistics, and The Vanguard Project. Technimatic’s 2019 single “Sometimes” has been hammered by Annie Mac and Rene La Vice on BBC Radio 1. He’s toured the planet with various acts from the USA to China and throughout Europe. His activism began in the 1990s when he collaborated with Tony Benn MP and organized the ‘No Compromize’ CD against the introduction of tuition fees in the UK.

Live CoM dates have included shows for Love Music Hate Racism and the Peoples Assembly Against Austerity, even being incorporated into a play (theatre) down the road from Conservative Party Conference and live appearances on official demonstration stages in Manchester and Downing St, London.

Burning House Releases ‘If You Won’t’ Single (The Week in #Indie Segment)

Burning House has released the next evolution in their revolution with a multi-layered and well-written track in the form of their new single titled ‘If You Won’t’. The song is one of those pieces of music that takes you along for the ride the writers have intended with a sweet combination of melodic drive and hooks within the chord progressions. With delectable dirt in the guitars and a steady rhythm within the melody, ‘If I don’t’ will make you listen and revel in the fact that the #indie scene is thriving.

About Burning House
Hailing from Southampton, Burning House formed in 2013 after many incarnations – today they are a trio comprised of frontman and guitarist Aaron Mills, drummer Dominic Taylor and bassist Patrick White. Mills, the band’s sole songwriter has refined the art of recording music over the past decade, in parallel with his technical skill as a guitar player. Their music rides the soft/loud dynamic well, producing music ranging from beautiful melancholy to loud feedback-driven post-rock.

Fusing elements of shoegaze and decade-spanning American Indie (Elliott Smith, Swans, Deerhunter, Teenage Fanclub, Slint, Pixies), Burning House’s sound is defined by multi-layered piercing guitar rhythms, sophisticated melodic arrangements, and tempos spanning introspective, stripped-down pieces through to distinctly upbeat, frenetic songs.

After gingerly approaching BBC 6 Music’s indie doyen Steve Lamacq with a 4-track demo while in Southampton, Lamacq was so enthralled that he chose Burning House to appear on 6 Music’s new band’s line-up.

Burning House has opened for the legendary Wire, after earning the appreciation of Colin Newman. The trio’s euphoric sound has also led to playing all over the south coast with the likes of Moon Duo, Shonen Knife, Is Bliss and Kagoule.
