ReMission International Releases TOS2020 (Trentemøller Remix) (The Week in #Indie Segment)

ReMission International has just shed light on Trentemøller’s take on the multinational COVID-19 relief track titled ‘TOS2020’. Trentemøller gives an obvious departure from both the original track from The Mission as well as the first collaboration released last month. More subdued and introverted while containing the obvious Trentemøller style, this remix is an introversion-conversion meant for personal reflection and as a valve for the emotions in this isolation that we all face and desperately feel.

The ‘Tower of Strength’ begins with the power of music.

ABOUT TOS2020 & TRENTEMØLLER REMIX

TOS2020 – the remake of The Mission’s anthemic hit ‘Tower Of Strength’ released to raise money for COVID-related charities worldwide – is out now, along with two new videos – for the Trentemøller remix and a new lyric video featuring many of the artists involved. All proceeds to charities personally chosen by each contributor.

From #TOS2020 creator Wayne Hussey: “This new video for the beautiful Trentemøller remix of ‘Tower Of Strength 2020’ was directed by James Sharples. The live footage is taken from a Mission video and shows us setting up before a gig, and it deliberately ends on a hopeful note to remind us that in the not too distant future we can all get together to make and enjoy loud music in a room again.”

“At the moment the money raised by TOS2020 is close to £100k, which is fantastic. It won’t stop once it’s out and will continue to raise money as long as orders are placed and streaming and publishing revenues come in. The funds will continue to accumulate, which is exactly what we wanted…. I want to keep thanking everyone for their support – it’s a hard time financially for people and there’s a long road ahead. The digital bundle contains 5 awesome tracks for just £2.99, it all helps those that need it most and the proceeds will be divided and distributed equally among all the beneficiaries. Thank you.”

The full version video, directed and edited by Savannah Perry, offers insight into the TOS2020 ‘Beholden To The Front-Line Workers Of The World mix’, revealing who sings which lines, who plays which guitar solo, drums, etc. throughout the song. Earlier, Vincente Cordero / Industrialism Films presented another video for the TOS2020 single.

Collaborators include: Andy Rourke, Billy Duffy, Budgie, Evi Vine, Gary Numan, James Alexander Graham, Jay Aston, Julianne Regan, Kevin Haskins, Kirk Brandon, Lol Tolhurst, Martin Gore, Michael Aston, Michael Ciravolo, Midge Ure, Miles Hunt, Rachel Goswell, Richard Fortus, Robin Finck, Steve Clarke, Tim Palmer, Trentemøller

BACKGROUND FROM WAYNE HUSSEY:

“When Covid-19 hit I started receiving messages asking ‘why don’t you re-issue Tower Of Strength for the front line workers?’ The song had apparently been adopted as an anthem by some NHS workers, and it got me thinking that I would like to contribute something to the greater cause at this unprecedented time and the only thing I could really contribute is music. So in conjunction with my good friend Michael Ciravolo, I came up with the idea of recording a new version of Tower Of Strength for charity by enlisting the help of musician friends and acquaintances.”

Produced by Wayne Hussey and co-produced and mixed by Tim Palmer. Except * remix by Trentemøller and ** remix by Albie Mischenzingerzen.

COLLABORATORS INCLUDE:

Andy Rourke, Billy Duffy, Budgie, Evi Vine, Gary Numan, James Alexander Graham, Jay Aston, Julianne Regan, Kevin Haskins, Kirk Brandon, Lol Tolhurst, Martin Gore, Michael Aston, Michael Ciravolo, Midge Ure, Miles Hunt, Rachel Goswell, Richard Fortus, Robin Finck, Steve Clarke, Tim Palmer, Trentemøller.

From TOS2020 collaborators:

“Being given the chance to do some good to raise money for people and animals struggling in these frightening times by singing one of the best songs ever written was such an easy thing to say yes to. An absolute honour to be involved.”
– Gary Numan

“Today as we face an unprecedented crisis with COVID 19, we have to be united in purpose to help humanity and especially the disenfranchised and impoverished among us, survive. Music can be a powerful way to join us all together and help those that need it most now.”
– Lol Tolhurst

“I’ve seen and heard Tower of Strength played often and I’ve experienced its effect and the impact it has on others. It’s an anthemic song of hope, comfort and joy, with a message that now seems more relevant than ever. I hope this project, in which I am privileged to be involved, brings a little light into the shade and allows us all to, albeit momentarily, focus on an ‘afterwards’.”
– Julianne Regan

“You get a message from Wayne Hussey asking if you can put a vocal (alongside a great list of singers, musicians and friends) on a reworking of a massive track in the repertoire of The Mission to aid COVID-19 charities around the globe – you say yes and get it done as well as you can.”
– Kirk Brandon

“I did it coz Wayne asked me to and I love Wayne.”
– Billy Duffy

“Being asked to contribute to making a piece of music isn’t overly taxing for a musician. I’m just pleased Wayne didn’t ask me to perform brain surgery or fly a jumbo jet, something which takes some form of skill.”
– Midge Ure

“My positive of the pandemic has been connecting to kindred spirits. Honoured to lend a hand.”
 Budgie

“I would like it known that, if asked, I would do absolutely anything for Wayne Hussey. Tower Of Strength is utter perfection: it is daring in its intent and supremely executed in both its original recording and every single time I have seen it performed live. To be asked to contribute to this new version was a very emotional experience for me. So many intense memories came flooding back as I sang, there were tears, I can assure you of that.”
– Miles Hunt

“Direct Relief is an organisation that helps people in times of emergency like natural disasters or in times of poverty by getting medical equipment and supplies to where they are needed most. At the moment they are obviously heavily focused on Covid-19.”
– Martin Gore (on Direct Relief, his nominated charity)

“Love and gratitude.”
– Robin Finck

“I jumped at the opportunity to be a part of this project – I always loved this song and asked Wayne if I could take a crack at John Paul Jones’ string arrangement, which I have always admired. Hopefully, my take on it does it justice.”
– Richard Fortus

“The power we have collectively is transformative … I love and admire Wayne and the band and the warmth and intention behind this release. I know the power of this song and I feel so honoured to have been invited to join so many celebrated artists, this is a beautiful star in the darkest of times and I know the difference it will make.”
– Evi Vine

“To be amongst these amazing artists that I’m a huge fan of and have so much respect for is a true honour, especially for such an important cause. The sacrifice that all the amazing NHS staff and key workers have made is truly humbling and inspiring. To be part of an incredible group of people that want to give something back and show their gratitude is something I’m extremely proud of.”
– James Alexander Graham

“When I was asked by Wayne to be part of this fantastic charity project, I immediately said yes! If I could contribute to supporting the hard work fighting COVID-19 by making a remix of Tower Of Strength, that was a way for me to make a small difference. I’m very honoured to be a part of this.”
– Trentemøller

“I signed on for this project because I felt that it would be a great way to raise a lot of funds for those in need at this time. When I heard all the names of artists who were collaborating, I knew that it would turn out very special. I’m very grateful to be given the opportunity to contribute to this marvellous project.”
– Kevin Haskins

“When Wayne emailed me with the idea of contributing vocals to this project I jumped at the chance. Tower of Strength is such an anthemic song it’s only fitting that this has been done to support the various charities. It’s an honour for me to be a small part of the process and what a stellar line up of people involved.”
– Rachel Goswell

“Not every day do you get the chance to play on one of your favourite songs with some of your favourite artists, and to have it be for all the right reasons and for an amazing cause.”
– Michael Ciravolo

“So honoured to be part of this wonderful project. It’s also interesting that three of the original performers on our – Gene Loves Jezebel – very first recording, ‘Shaving My Neck’ are reunited by chance some 37 years later: Julianne Regan, J.P, and myself. Hats off to Wayne and the Mission for giving this rendition for charity during this pandemic.”
– Michael Aston

“Absolutely buzzed and honestly flattered to be asked to not only add my voice to this wonderful recording but also give something back to our much loved and beleaguered NHS. The perfect song for these difficult and challenging days.”
– Jay Aston

Jammerzine’s The Week in #Indie for 10/5/2020

Jammerzine has an exclusive interview with Rob Salem and Scott Earley from the band Salem’s Childe. Also featured are video, single, and album premieres and previews from Piqued Jacks, Punt Guns, Cambry H, Flor and the Sea, Julian Shah-Tayler, of1000faces, ASM, and the world premiere of the new remix of ‘TOS2020’ by Trentemøller from The Mission’s Wayne Hussey’s COVID-19 project ReMission International.

About Salem’s Childe

Salem’s Childe has officially done a Jammerzine exclusive interview! And why I announced it in that way and am so excited about this particular interview is the fact that I know these guys personally and have even been in bands with one of them. Salem’s Childe is a band that I have followed from the inception. And one thing I can vouch for above all else is this is a band that is going about its musical career path on its own terms. And you will hear some of that in this interview.

One thing I must say before you listen is that, because I know these guys, this is more of a conversation than an interview. Sometimes that happens. But, I feel that is a good thing because we cover a lot of ground about Salem’s Childe but, unlike most interviews, we get to know about the minds behind the music as people. And these are good people. You will get to know a little more about why Salem’s Childe is the band that they are.

The new album by Salem’s Childe titled ‘The Sin That Saves You’ will release on October 9, 2020, via Pavement Entertainment.

About Piqued Jacks

Piqued Jacks have dropped their new single titled ‘Safety Distance’. A continuance of their personal evolution of revolution, ‘Safety Distance’ adds the personal flair and style of the Jacks to the current global situation of distancing and isolation and bring us all just a little bit closer to reality, and each other, with a personal message of harmony, hope, and hip with a song that is the anthem of integration.

About Punt Guns

Punt Guns officially release their new track and video titled ‘The Most Sacred Thing In The Universe’ on Jammerzine. Featuring the vocal debut of bassist Karisma, there couldn’t be a better debut than ‘The Most Sacred Thing In The Universe’. The song is a sucker punch to the senses and a hard hit to the ears.

The pandemic actually feels a bit more isolating now after hearing this track because I can’t help but think ‘Why does all the best live music have to come out when there are no concerts?’. ‘The Most Sacred Thing In The Universe’ is one of those tracks. This song was meant for the crowd and I can’t wait for the day that it’s played live for those crowds. Keep this song at the ready.

About Cambry H

Cambry H has premiered his new video and single titled ‘Goodnight’ today (September, 24th). On that initial listen, Cambry has an honesty about him. An honesty that transcends borders, beliefs, and social boundaries that most of us impede upon ourselves because that’s what we were taught. But Cambry lays on the table. Take it or leave it. It will be there all the same. And that is what we need at this moment. Add to that a soulful voice that perfectly frames the emotion of the notion and you have a timeless beauty in audio format. A future classic if you will.

The video is more of a visual track to the sound instead of a soundtrack to the visual. Kept simple. Clean. Almost naked with feeling and bare with conviction.

About Flor and the Sea

Flor and the Sea have officially released their new video titled ‘A Candid Lie’. As if filmed in a different era where people could convene in harmony and not intervene for quarantine, ‘A Candid Lie’ surrounds the current state of things with a sonic atmosphere of inclusion and infusion of love and endurance in that ‘you are not alone’ and, after we survive, we should remember to thrive.

In regards to the album ‘Kings & Queens’, Grandiose is scope from that first track (A Candid Lie), and continuing the solid set of hooks throughout, this ambitious set of songs sets a style and mood within the confines of the audio that show Flor and the Sea as impressive songwriters as much as expressive artists.

While each track fits in the overall sound, each has its own personality traits that range from introspection to extroversion and everywhere in between. Progression and virtuosity in the guise of mainstream pop.

About Julian Shah-Tayler

Julian Shah-Tayler a.k.a. ‘The Singularity’ has premiered his new video for the track titled ‘Devil Knows’ on Jammerzine. A vivid combination of a pop hit in waiting and electro-rock mix with a solid rhythm and beat, this version of ‘Devil Knows’ gives us a journey into collaboration with sub-bass highlights and sprinkles of synth.

The video captures the antics of a dainty dominatrix played by Eva Strangelove and her day-to-day goings-on from the mundane to the strange giving me the impression that we all have our own lifestyle and what’s normal and not is left to our own interpretation. What’s also normal is the meaning of the song. Loss is a constant in life and how we lose touch with those around us, whether it be from distance in location or distance in views or anything else is normal as well and, through that loss, we always gain a part of ourselves.

The video was “socially distanced” by the exquisite “Eva Strangelove” famed burlesque performer (and clearly developed comedic actress) from her house and dungeon. David j provides artful interjections from his home in LOS ANGELES To be featured in the ruby rock version. Julian broadcasts from the inferno of a burning Pasadena, California. About of1000faces

of1000faces has released their new video for the track titled ‘Astronomica’. As the titled track from the album of the same name, it’s only fitting that this is how that track should sound. Spacious, grandiose, atmospheric, and more. To me, it also sounds worldly. ‘Astronomica’ has that feel that makes you reflect on the world around you and gives you that sense that you are a part of it and not just an observer.

The ‘Astronomica’ album was released digitally on September 25 and is available across online stores such as Apple Music and streaming platforms such as Spotify and Bandcamp.

About ASM

ASM has dropped their new album titled ‘Blue Cocoon’. The first track, ‘Marathon’ came as a complete surprise to me. Almost anti-climatic, the track actually fits almost perfectly as to signify the slow burn that ‘Blue Cocoon’ achieves as an album. that burn continues through as an eventual crescendo that encapsulates the album and gives that sense of ascension to the listener that feels earned by the time ‘Blue Cocoon’ concludes.

The samples are welcome obscurity that combines retro-bliss in concert with the style of the album in this modern time of isolation.

With a more stripped sound and simple direction, ASM embraces these new set of nostalgic hooks while moving forward in a musical progression that gives an optimism desperately needed that’s rarely spoken.

An Interview with Trentemøller (The Week in #Indie Segment)

Danish indie/electronic music Trentemøller may be one of the most diverse people in the music industry.  With a career spanning over two decades and literally hundreds of credits cross-hopping between albums of many different genres as well as scoring and production work, to say hee is established at this point would be an understatement.

And now we get the next evolution of his revolution in the form of his new album titled ‘Obverse’, which drops today (September 27, 2019). Featuring guest spots by such as Rachel GoswellLina TullgrinLisbet Fritze, and Jennylee, ‘Obverse’ is an electronic dreamscape in which each track has its own signature stamp within the collection yet everything seems to fall into place further cementing Trentemøller’s place as a music legend.

And today we get to speak with that legend and get his incite on the music industry as a whole as well as ‘Obverse’ and the magic contained within.

ABOUT TRENTEMØLLER & ‘OBVERSE’

Trentemøller already shared gorgeous videos for singles “In The Garden” (ft. Lina Tullgren) and “Sleeper,” in addition to a short film he wrote & recorded music for with Lisbet Fritze, featuring Sean Penn and Helena Christensen.  “Try A Little” (ft. jennylee of Warpaint)  came out 8/30.

He has always worked with strong female singers, including Savages’ Jehnny Beth, Low’s Mimi Parker, Blonde Redhead’s Kazu Makino, and Marie Fisker. This new album features the voices of Slowdive’s Rachel Goswell, Warpaint’s Jenny Lee Lindberg (jennylee) and Lisbet Fritze, as well. With shoegaze, dream pop, synth-based soundscape enriched by German Kosmische/Motorik experimentalist spirit, Obverse explores complementary contrasts inherent in the album title and Nordic environment he calls home.

About Martin Metcalfe

Goodbye Mr MacKenzie achieved notoriety in what I call that magical time in underground music. Before grunge when alternative wasn’t the mainstream and MTV told us exactly how many minutes we were allowed to watch that post-modern independent chic in the form of 120 Minutes.

Through it all Goodbye Mr MacKenzie frontman Martin Metcalfe has seen those stylistic changes in music and has both kept his creative integrity as well as evolved to the beat of his own drum. And while those styles continue to change, Martin continues to reinvent himself with both solo work as well as The Filthy Tongues, among other things.

In this interview, we talk with Martin about his beginnings in Scotland and the rise of Goodbye Mr MacKenzie as well as the release of their inceptual album ‘Good Deeds and Dirty Rags’ and reunion shows and much, much more.

About A Permanent Shadow

This pretty much sums up Songs of Loss, the debut album by A Permanent Shadow, out as of September 20th, 2019. The ten songs on the album take us on a musical journey through the life of its creator. Lyrically the record portrays the lives of personalities that have inspired the author, some of them very close, some of the family, others fictitious. Happy-go-lucky it isn’t, though there are glimpses of hope, such as in the “carpe diem song” Now, the album’s third single after Empty and Fool, released on October 25th, 2019.

About Callow Youth

Callow Youth dropped their new single titled ‘Red Leather’ along with a stellar remix courtesy of Dave Pemberton. To me, this is a continuation of that remarkable sound that is Callow Youth, with a vivid post-punk alt-rock vibe with catchy choruses that seamlessly blend between raunchy hooks. What we also get is a vividly different take on the song via Mr. Pemberton that give me fond memories in the style of vintage Jesus Jones and even Ned’s Atomic Dustbin but all Callow in nature and execution showing that the band has a vivid penchant for incorporating what they love while retaining who they are. That is the sign of a band that makes lasting music.

About Gaunt Story

Gaunt Story, aka Rob Ashworth, has a unique sound which is evident in his new single titled ‘Scattered Solace’. As the title suggests, this is a song hard to place into a genre. It’s definitely all indie, but there is much more going on. The guitars, to me, really stand out as there is a wonderful combination of acoustic strum and electric ‘noodling’ going on in a way I would have never guessed but perfectly fits. Rob’s vocals are another standout as he sings with an original blend of melancholy and experience.

About Sløtface

Sløtface has officially dropped their lyric video for the track titled ‘Sink or Swim’. Addressing the very real issue of climate change in such a way puts a face on the issue that needs to be recognized. Music is the perfect way to do that because it puts the issue in the subconscious in a way that only music can do. Sløtface does this in a way that is filled with class and lacking in self-promotion with a lush song filling out the meaningful lyrics amid disturbing visuals of the toll we’ve given our home planet and have yet to pay ourselves, making this video a wake-up call.
