Vandebilt {ˈvændəbɪlt, pronounced in three syllables ‘Van’, ‘Duh’ & ‘built’} is a four piece dance-floor inspired indie disco band from Sunderland, in the North-East of England.
Taking their name from the Paul McCartney song “Mrs. Vandebilt”, the band are not one for gimmicks or Instagram inspired fads or the rush of the industry and take inspiration from the song of their name – don’t worry, no need to rush. Their music is honest, positive and centered around the band’s experiences of love, lust, and loss as well as frequent experiences of north-east working clubs.

Jake & the Jellyfish – Reading List
The band says, “Reading List is about confidence and learning how to deal with change. Lyrically this one was really personal to me, but I tried to write it so that it could be as relatable to others as possible, we all deal with change in our lives, whether it’s things getting in the way of seeing the person you love, losing somebody close or even not spending enough time reading as much as you’d like. I approached our friend Claudio to do the video and he did such a great job of portraying the exact vibe of the song to the video he produced, he’s such a genuine guy and I think his input and enthusiasm for the project really gave the video an extra dynamic.”
Armed with foot-stomping, beer-soaked folk tunes and ‘sing your heart out’ punk rock anthems, Jake and the Jellyfish write dance-able, sing-along songs about the frustrations of daily life, 9 to 5 jobs, environmental concerns and more. Who knew being grumpy could be so much fun?
Social commentary is a key part to J& TJ’s music, an overall sense of dissatisfaction resides underneath the surface of very relatable, catchy lyrics. Whether it’s a fuck you to lad culture “I won’t follow your lead, and I’m not one of the lads”, or being aware of your own flaws “We’re all hypocrites, just to greater or lesser extents” they wear their emotions on their sleeves and it’s evident in their live show.
5 years of touring in a beat up old postal van has added plenty of experiences to their sound. From breaking down in a small town in France with no breakdown cover and no money to get home to accidentally headlining the Woodlands stage in front of thousands of people at Kendal Calling; it all adds to the community spirit of the Jellyfish, they just want to have some beers and play some tunes at the top of their lungs.
Originally just Jake playing punk folk songs by himself, the band met at uni in Leeds and quickly became a unit rather than a one-man show. Deciding to play as many shows as possible, as quickly as possible, they met many friends along the way. And what’s more, fun than traveling the world and hanging out with your friends? Over the years their sound has gained more and more energy and yet has still matured.
In addition to performing shows all over, the band has played festivals like Rebellion, Mighty Sounds, Boomtown, Bearded Theory, Kendal Calling, Beat-herder and The Fest, and has shared stages with bands such as Red City Radio, The Skints, H20, Random Hand and Beans on Toast, which has enabled them to carve their own foothold in the DIY music scene.

Ways – Death Row
French alternative metal quintet Ways have premiered their brand new single and music video for “Death Row”. The single comes from the group’s upcoming record titled, AFTERMATH set to release March 15th.
“We are very excited for everyone to finally see the music video for our first single of our new EP, “Aftermath”, says guitarist, Nicolas Reignier.
With the new album, the band brings their beliefs to the table in the new album which speaks of the many problems we see today including global warming, animal cruelty and much more.
Reignier continues, “The single titled, “Death Row” and was written by us when we were going through a time where we felt the emergency of the situation of an animals life. We wanted to write something that spoke exactly how we felt. This song is about fur and, by consequences, about animals mistreatment. We don’t understand why a lot of animals are killed for their fur… Most people of the world don’t need fur for protection to the cold, we have a lot of alternative clothes for that. This just for fashion and is cruel.”

Ernest Moon – Satdeenight Ready
Liverpool-based outfit Ernest Moon presents ‘Satdeenight Ready’ off their ‘Ba-jesus’ EP, which is finally being released on CD in early April. Recorded at Orphan Recording in Dublin with Peter Ashmore and Gavin Glass (Paul Brady, John Grant, Lisa Hannigan, Mundy), these four tracks are packed with loads of adrenaline-packed expression that is both critical and tongue-in-cheek.
‘Satdeenight Ready’ is about a fella going out at the weekend to get drunk and look for some romance. Though he gets reflective in the chorus where he laments humanity’s needlessly cruel and trashy aspects, albeit in a humorous rather than heavy way.
Ernest Moon is Steven Doran and Brian Murphy, two English no-marks brought together by a liking for eggs on toast. Their sound is somewhat punky and has been described as pushy pop. They say they are “filling the gap between pretentious lyrical art and bog standard pop music”.
“We were in a band before with our best mate and whatever blert we could get to drum. we released one LP, which bombed everywhere except New Zealand, where we were worshipped and certain underpopulated parts of Estonia there were some unsubstantial sales,” says Steven Doran.
“This is the first time our singularly poetic take on stuff has been released. And it is as polished, in terms of production, as we’ll ever get. One could say that the four songs on the Ba-jesus EP are inspired by the humor and language of working-class Liverpool, and the tendency to be both showy offy and earthy. The music reflects that with its up-frontedness,” says Brian Murphy.
“This EP was recorded in Dublin, which is why we used the utterance Ba-jesus, which derives from Ireland and is an expression of resignation and disbelief among other things”.
The Blockheads, Arab Strap and Talking Heads number among their influences, as do Loudon Wainwright, Joni Mitchell, and writers such as James Kelman, Paddy Kavanagh and Philip Larkin.
The ‘Ba-jesus’ EP is available digitally via iTunes and for streaming on Spotify. The CD is being offered exclusively via Bandcamp and comes in a breathtaking matt finish gatefold card case with bonza photographs by Steven Crabtree and Chris Dorley-Brown.
