Frankie Animal – Peaches

Frankie Animal has today released their new video for the track titled ‘Peaches’. Perfect pop sensibility combined with subdued sensuality is what is musically at the heart of ‘Peaches’. But you also get that layer of originality that is the hook and harmony of it all. And that is where the brilliance lay.

“The main idea in the lyrics was heavily drawn from Luca Guadagnino’s film, Call Me By Your Name,” the band said in a statement. “The idea was of a secret relationship and, not to sound cheesy here, but a forbidden love. Even the title was borrowed from the movies’ infamous peach scene.”

ABOUT FRANKIE ANIMAL

When quirky rawness meets the delicate nature of Feist and Jeff Buckley you get a certain something known as Frankie Animal.

Frankie Animal is an Estonian indie-rock act formed in 2012 by Marie M. Vaigla (vocals), Jonas Kaarnamets (guitar), and Jan-Christopher Soovik (bass). Within a year of forming, the band was earning praise from Radio 2, one of the most important radios in Estonia, who named the band a station and audience’s favorite in 2012.

Following their initial EP in 2013, Frankie Animal’s long-awaited debut album, The Backbeat, arrived in April 2016 to national praise. Kaspar Viilup of Estonian Public Broadcasting praised Vaigla’s vocals as “remarkably versatile, at one point as fragile as Karen O’s solo projects and the next moment screaming-roaring as The Kills’ lead vocalist Alison Mosshart.”

Placing in the Eurovision-adjacent Estonian Song Contest and continuing to steadily gain praise, Frankie Animal released a new single “Playful” in June 2019 under the Sony Music label Made in Baltics. The following month, “Playful” was the most played song on Radio 2. Next month, the band is set to release “Peaches,” a lounging slice of indie-pop that’s meant to sound like the peachy colors reflecting off windows during a midsummer sunset in the city.

Poppymoon – No I Won’t

Poppymoon has today premiered their new single and video titled ‘No I Won’t’. This song is one of those that creeps up behind you and just quietly begins that dance move that entices you to join in. Sabina’s voice is the perfect fit and strength to lead this track into that part of your memory where it becomes a part of you.

While the video is simple it is to the point and past the limit in a signature way. In that way alone I feel that it is the perfect introduction to Poppymoon. Strong yet subtle. Beautiful and boundless. Welcome to the next experience of your life.

ABOUT POPPYMOON

Poppymoon is a German pop duo founded in 2020 by producer djaaaen and singer Sabina. Infusing their sound with elements of their past life in a rock band together, the duo creates a darker pop sound that nonetheless remains groovy as hell. Inspired by their own experiences coming of age in today’s world, their lyrics explore topics around mental health, self-discovery, freedom, and hope.

Sabina and djaaaen started their musical careers early, with Sabina singing ever since she can remember and djaaaen playing various instruments from the time he was six years old. They met in 2011 in a bar when Sabina asked djaaaen, then just a stranger next to her, if he could order her a cocktail. Since she was not of legal age yet, it was a slightly irresponsible decision the duo advise not to copy, but luckily, he obliged. What started as a light criminal act sparked a friendship and a musical partnership for life.

For almost a decade, Sabina and djaaaen wrote and performed music with their band ASHBY, touring Mexico and Germany along with playing gigs all over Europe. In the fall of 2020, amidst a pandemic locking down live music worldwide, the duo decided to indulge their long time love for pop music and form POPPYMOON.

Their first single, “Wanna Play that Game?” was released in September 2020, addressing topics like societal pressure and recognizing your own value against a minimalist pop backdrop that recalled the deft production of Billie Eilish and Dua Lipa. Their second single “Weirdos” followed shortly after and, to start off the new year, the duo announced “Joanie’s Secret” in January and their upcoming single “No, I won’t” in February. Opening on one of the duo’s most driving bass lines and building to a tropical house-indebted climax with Sabina’s commanding vocals guiding the way, “No, I won’t” is an empowering pop anthem tailor-made for a hopeful new year.

“No, I won’t’ embraces the concept of enforcing boundaries and living a life true to yourself without complying with others wishes, projections, and expectations, especially as a female-identifying person,” Sabina says. “Although this song deals with this topic from a female viewpoint, this message stands for everybody.”

DJ Halo (aka Kris Pierce) has premiered his new video for the track titled ‘Midnight Dive’. Going beyond the typical dance track, there is substance here. And that substance goes beyond the beat. Add to that the soulful lyrical licks of Amira, and you have a song that sticks in your memory. And makes your memory beyond…

Cathal Coughlan – Owl In The Parlour

Cathal Coughlan has released the video for his new track titled ‘Owl in the Parlour’. Given a dark tone only highlighted by the video, the track has an almost dark alt jazz feeling to it. Almost a cross between Leonard Cohen and Joe Jackson. The chord progressions are brilliant and the originality factor is above ten.

As of February 5, ‘Owl In The Parlour’ is available digitally across online platforms, such as Apple Music and Spotify. Lead track ‘Song of Co-Aklan’ can already be found on these same platforms. The full album, set for release on March 26, can be pre-ordered HERE.

ABOUT CATHAL COUGHLAN

Irish indie music legend Cathal Coughlan presents ‘Owl In The Parlour’, the second single from his forthcoming album ‘Song of Co-Aklan’, his first new music in ten years, to be released via London label Dimple Discs. The accompanying video was created by Andy Golding (The Wolfhounds, Dragon Welding), presenting Co-Aklan in an infomercial of the most hallucinatory and lurid kind, which is nonetheless friendly and persuasive in tone.

“This song is, in part, a survey of the options in personal couture, animal husbandry, and ‘inexpensive’ domestic staffing which are now available to the spry middle-aged man in this era of global communication. In this gilded age, we are simultaneously interlinked and mutually repelled as never before, whether we live in remote settlements in war-torn parts of the world, or in the mosaic of postage-stamp-sized semi-detached fortresses and gargantuan fulfillment hubs that is the English Hinterland in 2021,” says Cathal Coughlan.

Earlier, Coughlan released the title track ‘Song of Co-Aklan’, along with a video that is a hermetic visual feast, created by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker George Seminara.

Best known as co-founder and vocalist for seminal 80s/90s bands Microdisney and The Fatima Mansions, who toured internationally with U2, the Cork native has been described as “the most underrated lyricist in pop today” by The Guardian newspaper. DJ John Peel was also such a fan that he stated he could “listen to Cathal Coughlan sing the phone book”.

Recorded in London, this song features Coughlan’s long-time collaborators from the Grand Necropolitan Quartet. Namely Nick Allum (The Fatima Mansions, The Apartments) is on drums, James Woodrow is on guitar, with cello by Audrey Riley (notable collaborator of Lush, The Sundays, The Smiths, Nick Cave, The Cure, The Go-Betweens, Smashing Pumpkins, Catherine Wheel, Moloko and Coldplay). Anchoring the song is Rhodri Marsden (Scritti Politti) on bass.

This album also features contributions from Luke Haines (The Auteurs, Black Box Recorder) on bass and baritone guitar. The eye-catching cover art for the ‘Song of Co-Aklan’ LP is by outsider artist Cristabel Christo and originated by Bruce Brand, award winning designer for The Darkness and Whites Stripes.

Cathal Coughlan is widely considered to be one of Ireland’s most revered singer-songwriters, beloved by fans of caustic literate lyricism and erudite songcraft. Since Fatima Mansions’ demise in the mid-90s, he has released five acclaimed solo albums, taken part in an array of collaborations, and made numerous guest appearances. Along with Microdisney bandmates, he was the first recipient in 2019 of Ireland’s National Concert Hall Trailblazer Award, which celebrates culturally important albums by iconic Irish musicians, songwriters, and composers (for 1985’s ‘The Clock Comes Down The Stairs’).

Lord and the Woolf – Young

Lord and the Woolf have today released their new video for the track titled ‘Young’. That original vocal harmony is the first thing that grabs you, beautifully crafted over a varied pair of guitar licks and laid back steady beat. Add to that the lush scenery filmed locations and storyboard cinematic style, you have what you see; a pair of artists who have a vision.

ABOUT LORD AND THE WOOLF

Lord and the Woolf are made up of a pair of rascals from the North West of England – Joe Woolf and Sam Lord.

After previously touring with bands Chappaqua Wrestling, ‘Aquilo’, ’LOWES’, and ‘Shy Luv’, Sam and Joe decided to start their own project. With Joe conveniently being a producer, they took to his studio to hone and create their own unique style and sound. Their studio writing process and attention to detail spawned a dense and interesting production aesthetic, resembling the likes of ‘Alt-J’, ‘Bombay Bicycle Club’ and ‘Tame Impala.’

Following two previous singles including the euphoric ‘Etta’s Game’, this month will mark the release of their 3rd single ‘Young’ alongside a music video.

‘Young’ carries a narrative that highlights youthful lust and love, and how it can harness the power to distort our moral compass. At a point in everyone’s life, they must make a choice to either leave or stay in a life-defining moment.

‘Young’ is out now and available HERE.

Fly Felix – Beautiful Animal

Fly Felix has officially premiered his new video for the track titled ‘Beautiful Animal’. I have to start by saying that I love the Tarot Card motif as an identity factor within each Fly Felix video. It’s an obvious continuation and lesson stamp giving an identity to each track.

For the song, the originality is present throughout with an original catchy hook and those vintage style recorded instruments, especially the acoustic guitar and the muted bass. But, the surprise is in the chorus! That subtle yet catchy drive behind the chorus makes this song signature.

The animation enhances the song in a way that gives it a cinematic animated look fit for a theater.

This, to me, is what Fly Felix is defined with. He has found his sound and that sound is original.

“Every Fly Felix song is represented by a unique tarot card, each offering a related lesson. Beautiful Animal’s animated story will take viewers into this tarot inspired universe, following the narrative of a woman and lion. These two figures are emblematic of the “Strength” card, which encompasses themes of Compassion, Bravery, Fearlessness, and Self-Acceptance.

The music video will launch a fundraiser in support of the National Forest Foundation, and the Northern Arizona Forest Fund. Support helps bring awareness to the health of our forests, watersheds, wildlife restoration, and preservation of crucial habitats.”

ABOUT FLY FELIX

The indie-rock recording project of singer/songwriter, and producer Drew Tyler. Fueled by cosmic energy and driven by mysticism, Fly Felix sound waves soar across the Mojave desert and land in a vortex of alternative influence. To achieve an original sound, Tyler took a 4-month writing retreat at a secluded cabin in Sedona before moving to Los Angeles to record his first album. There, he partnered with keyboardist and composer Eric McDermott. The two self-released “The Sun Will Wake You Up” in early 2020, led by the debut single “Beautiful Animal.”

Cinthya Hussey – My Heart Is A Ghost Town (Julian Shah-Tayler’s Spooky Remix)

Cinthya Hussey has just premiered her new video for her remix single titled ‘My Heart Is A Ghost Town (Julian Shah-Tayler’s Spooky Remix)’.

Cinthya, to me, screams mega talent. In more ways than one. She is an accomplished actress as well as a stellar singer. And now she gives a perfect collaborative example with the help of Julian Shah-Tayler with this new video.

Cinthya and Julian mix like oil and water, which is a good thing in this case. First off, listen to the original HERE. Are you back? Ok, good. Now watch the new video above. See what I mean? What we have here are two very compatible yet different artists coming together in a beautiful mix of talent, harmony, and sheer love of the craft.

The multiple layers of instruments and melody surround Cinthya’s subtly angelic vocal style with imagination and collective crescendo that culminates to an aural passion for the craft. This is a song that will become a soundtrack to your next memory if you let it. And combine that to that certain something that Julian possesses in his own right and you have what music should be about: That love for the commentary of life.

ABOUT CINTHYA HUSSEY

Cinthya Hussey is a Brazilian singer, songwriter, actress & visual artist.

A few years ago Cinthya watched a TED Talk featuring Paula Fuga and her inspirational speech ‘Believe In Yourself’ on how we all need to pursue our dreams. At the end of her presentation, Paula performs one of the songs on the ukulele that had brought her international recognition. Cinthya thought, “I could learn to play that instrument”.

Not long after, Cinthya was given her own ukulele as a present and taught herself to play by learning cover versions of songs that she has loved since being a teenager. There are several videos of Cinthya on her own YouTube channel performing songs by The Pixies, The Cure, Depeche Mode, & Cigarettes After Sex as well as the ‘official’ video for Cinthya’s first single, released in July 2020, of her stunning reworking of Morrissey’s ‘Everyday Is Like Sunday’. Produced by Wayne Hussey, singer-guitarist in the British band The Mission, who has also produced Cinthya’s 2nd single, ‘My Heart Is A Ghost Town’.

‘My Heart Is A Ghost Town’ – a vision of 50s/60s pop meets the Cocteau Twins meets David Lynch – is the first song that Cinthya has written herself, originally a poem that she recently put to music, which will be included on her debut solo album planned for release in 2021.

Cinthya has also recently contributed vocals to a couple of remixes of the Beauty In Chaos anthem, ‘The Delicate Balance Of All Things’. The ‘Rapid Reiteration Mix’ is remixed by renowned producer Tim Palmer whose credits include U2, Pearl Jam, Robert Plant, & David Bowie among many others, and the ‘Equipoise Mix’ is mixed by the Beauty In Chaos head honcho Michael Ciravolo in tandem with Grammy-winning producer Michael Rozon. Cinthya’s unique paintings were also used as artwork for the albums ‘Out Of Chaos Comes’ and ‘Chaos Continues…’

This is what Tim Palmer has had to say about working with Cinthya:

‘I had the opportunity to mix ‘The Delicate Balance Of All Things’ recently for Cinthya and it was a joy. Her voice is something special.

Ever since I was a young lad, I have been attracted to the sound of foreign female voices singing in English. Astrid Gilberto, Charlotte Gainsburg, or even Abba, always exude something special by being from far off lands. Somehow the accent gives the voice an innocence, mystery, and charm. Well, Cinthya has all that and more. Her choice of notes is refreshing and unique and I am left wanting to hear more. I wish her great success.’

And Michael Ciravolo, the curator of the Beauty In Chaos collective, wrote this about Cinthya:

‘‘The Delicate Balance Of All Things’ was the first tune I wrote for ‘The Storm Before The Calm’ and still one of my favorites. When I heard Cinthya do her cover of ‘Everyday Is Like Sunday’ I really fell in love with her voice. When I initially sent this stripped-down version to her and Wayne I thought she would sing more backing vocals and harmonies to Wayne’s original lead vocal, but when we received the trackback it was like WOW! Cinthya really took the song over ad took it to a new, totally different and beautiful place and I knew it was something special.’

Wayne Hussey, who has recorded both of Cinthya’s two singles in his own Green Room Studio in the countryside outside of Sao Paulo, commented:

‘Cinthya has a unique and singular vision. It’s rare, in my experience, for new musicians to be so certain of what they want to do, how they want to sound, as Cinthya is. It’s refreshing. Both recordings were totally driven by her, my job being principal to help her realize the soundscapes she was hearing in her head. Her voice is certainly something individual and the way she phrases things is unlike anyone else I know of. There is a sensuality to her voice that is effortless which is as all real sensuality should be.’

Celso – Someday (ft Jessica Totaro)

Celso has just dropped his new video for the track titled ‘Someday’ featuring Jessica Totaro. Enchanted by the groove and mesmerized by the rhyme, ‘Someday’ lays low and lows down on the beat with a laid back homage to the healing time gives with a breathtaking glimpse of creativity overcoming grief. This is a testament to music as medicine. Thank you, Celso.

ABOUT ‘SOMEDAY’

Tragedy can be a tough mountain to climb over. Some are left hopelessly wishing the door to pain will close and never reopen.

Others, like Celso, use the pain caused by a passing loved one to fuel their creative outlet. How many of us wished we could remember our last conversation with someone we cared about? or be able to listen to it on repeat just to get back the essence of the person’s existence?

Celso was able to do this for himself on this Mydus produced melodic journey called ‘Someday’, also featuring the dulcet tones of singer Jessica Totaro.

After the passing of his friend/little brother due to a drug overdose, Someday recalls the worries that plagued Celso’s fallen comrade and his attempt to seek advice to improve himself and his circumstances.

With lines like “Remember what you’re doing and the dreams you are pursuing, remember that the sun is always up for your viewing” it’s clear that while dark times may hover over us if you look out into the distance, a better day will undoubtedly come…Someday!

Kings County – I Ran

Kings County have released their new video for the track titled ‘I Ran’. To hear such a departure from the original can be either a beast or a burden. Kings County have done the former. Free from the chains of the original, both the track and the video give a reinterpretation of ‘I Ran’ with the heaviness of Kings County and the homage of fans. This is the perfect combination.

Check out our other features with Kings County HERE.

ABOUT KINGS COUNTY & ‘I RAN’

Kings County is back with an intense and hard-hitting video remake of the 80’s classic from A Flock of Seagulls “I Ran (So Far Away)” out January 29, 2021. The Orlando, FL. rock band took their own rendition of the single and video and catapulted it to the next level.

Kings County is Rob Dexter (Vocals, Bass), Steve Bell (Guitars, Vocals), Joe Lopez (Drums) and Bill Kania (Guitars, Vocals).

Dexter says, “We teamed up with Director Adam Arnali, who mixed elements from the original A Flock of Seagulls video with a modern look and guitar-driven sound of the band, creating a darker visual experience.”

“I Ran (So Far Away)” was produced by super producer Chuck Alkazian (Pop Evil, Soundgarden, Tantric) at Pearl Sound Studios (Asking Alexandria, Eminem, Filter) in Canton, MI.

SNKT – Lost in Love

SNKT has just released his new single and video titled ‘Lost in Love’. Take this for what you will, but, this is a fun song. It’s not so much in your face but it is wildly infectious. SNKT’s vocals are stellar in an original popstar fashion and perfectly compliment the music. And that music, while steady, is signature. Coming from a new artist, having found his sound really shows where SNKT is headed. And it’s atmospheric.

ABOUT SNKT

SNKT is the stage name of Stockholm-based artist Jack O’Connor, but while his alias comes from a Swedish word for ‘saint’, O’Connor is far from anointed as he unpacks sins across his upcoming debut No Saints.

Born and raised in Ireland, O’Connor began writing and producing music in university, pulling from his country’s gift for storytelling with a coming-of-age soundtrack by Robyn, Kate Bush, and The Knife. Taking from his experiences discovering his queer identity along with the rush of an Irish college experience, SNKT inherently began as a project born out of club pop adoration met with searingly candid confessionals.

“I realized that when you’re the one with the pen, you can easily portray yourself in the best light possible,” O’Connor adds. “I found myself being more honest in terms of writing where I saw faults in both parties. This is where I thought of the ‘saint’ idea, in that there were no saints in these relationships.”

Considering the personal nature of his latest batch of songs, O’Connor decided to approach No Saints as its sole writer and producer after working with Grammy Award-winning producer Philip Larsen among others. The end result is one of the most fully formed, ebullient pop debuts in recent memory anchored by O’Connor’s deft vision of heartfelt dance music.

Lead single “Lost in Love” is peak club hours excellence in an alternate universe where dancefloors are unencumbered by lockdowns. Written during an isolating period this past summer, “Love” finds O’Connor grappling with the pandemic alongside the end of a fleeting romance doomed from the get-go. Love and lust factor heavily across No Saints, but at its core, SNKT’s debut is a document of unvarnished personal growth and acceptance in real-time.

“I feel like this record is very me,” O’Connor concludes. “Growing up gay in Ireland had its challenges, though I learned so much of myself through music, and I feel this record is, in part, a tribute to all the great music I was raised on that gave me strength when I was weak. Through this record, I was able to truly be my unashamed gay self and I hope to be able to spread the same joy that I was able to hear and feel in my teenage years to anyone who’s going through a rough time.”
