Clemont – Sunset (ft. Holy Mattress Money)
Growing up in Bridgeport, Ohio, Clemont fell in love with music through the influence of her father, a guitar player who always had music playing in the house. Being surrounded by stacks of records from a young age gave her a deep appreciation for the rhythm and soul of music that would set the foundation for her pursuit as an artist.
Living in a small town, she always felt like an outsider—more often staying home recording demos on her karaoke machine than going out. These early recordings eventually blossomed into what would be her first official EP, ‘In The Beginning’, produced by Jesty from Holy Mattress Money.
As an artist, Clemont sees herself somewhere between the sugary whimsy of Doja Cat and the blue wave laid back charm of Mac DeMarco; earning her the reputation of being equal parts dance-ready and heartfelt at the same time.
The ‘In The Beginning’ EP marks her transition from bedroom pop hopeful, to a deep pop R&B goddess—growing as a songwriter by drawing on familiar influences while taking bold new steps that hit all the right keys.
She gets inspiration from every facet of life whether it’s the good, the bad, looking at the past, or contemplating the future, closing chapters, or starting new ones. Kate Clemont likes to share time between her hometown and her sweet new spot in West LA where she retreats every year. In The Beginning is out now on Declared Major records, available on all major platforms.
Sunset was written during an odd time in my life. I was adjusting to a new chapter, going through the motions of anxiety and depression, swapping and trying different antidepressants, and generally going through a bit of a rough and stressful patch.
During this period of time, I became really reminiscent of my past, which was a happier time for me. It was something that I held onto to remind myself that I was in love with life once- which really gave me the strength to push through my hard times because I knew that I could, and would, feel that way again.
With this song, I wanted to paint a picture of appreciating simplicity during hard times. When life gets crazy, sometimes we need to step away, take a deep breath, and do something blissfully simple like sitting on a roof and watching the sunset.
This EP is really special to me. Music has been the core of my existence since as early as I can remember. It all started when my parents bought me a keyboard when I was little. I taught myself to play by ear, and would always make little songs and skits to perform for my family.
As I grew up and life began to change, I used music to cope. When I couldn’t make sense of my feelings or the things I was going through, good or bad, I would put that strange energy into a song. Turning my hardships and emotions into art was, and still is, beautiful to me.
Sharing my music with others made me feel extremely nervous and vulnerable at first, and although I still get that feeling from time to time, it ultimately makes me feel strong and proud of my work. The songs on this EP are short stories of my life. They’re like little pieces of me that set the stage and help to describe the person I am today. They detail what I consider to be the highest of highs and the lowest of lows of my journey through life.

Astrobal – Australasie (ft. Laetitia Sadier)
French electronic producer Astrobal has announced his forthcoming ‘Memories of Stars’ EP via German label Karaoke Kalk, combining psychedelic soundings with a soft pop. He is already previewing the lead track ‘Australasie ft. Laetitia Sadier’. The accompanying video was produced by Patrice Curtillat (a.k.a. Poborsk), whose fantastic illustrations flow over the geography of Australasia, as clouds of drones and satellites float in the sky, before inevitably diving in a kaleidoscope from where one emerges on stellar landscapes, where colors and hybrid forms blossom like mechanical insects.
Astrobal is the solo project of Emmanuel (Emma) Mario, who burst onto the scene in his native France through collaborations and production work with some of the country’s most cutting-edge artists, including Laetitia Sadier, Arnaud Fleurent-Didier, Holden, Institut, Monade, Hyperclean. and Iko Chérie. It is no coincidence that the Stereolab songstress should feature on ‘Australasie’, as Emma Mario’s work as a producer and drummer for Laetitia Sadier has left an enduring legacy, rendering some of the most singular work from the iconic French chanteuse.
Mario has produced several Laetitia Sadier albums ‘The Trip’ (2010) and ‘Something Shines’ (2014), as well as the latest ‘Find Me Finding You’ album from Laetitia Sadier Source Ensemble, all three albums released through Drag City. He’s been extremely busy this year, touring as part of the Ensemble and sometimes even opening the show as Astrobal.
“Our blood runs hydrous with the seas/The essence of oceans spills through our veins.” Laetitia Sadier matter-of-factly unfurls these words on the opening track and they prove prescient. Astrobal’s wispy, French-accented vocals intermix with Sadier’s enchanting voice as she delivers spiritual and scientific information about the universe as if engaged in a shamanic incantation.
“Emmanuel became a long-time collaborator and he’s very good at working with other people, but there was also a desire to do his own stuff. He was kind of doing it before he started working on this project, but then I guess he found his focus and made this incredible piece of work,” says Laetitia Sadier.
“From one track to another, you’re transported to very different countries, but it’s also very familiar to Emmanuel, and I find that to be a real strength: to have such a variety of different styles, but still be familiar and to have some similarity. He reaches really far out to find certain tracks and to bring them back to a whole.”
The album is aqueous, each track a slow wave building, with clean lines and fluid form. Symphonic strings and ethereal ambient washes are married to buzzing synths and Astrobal’s crisp, crackling drums. Though eclectic, Astrobal presents a cohesive vision, with the guiding principles of texture and fluidity uniting the disparate threads. Astrobal creates a universe one can swim around in – from start to finish, the particular mood always beholden to the vibe. One leaves his dream world having lived a unique experience laced with sonic and solar dreamy.
Karaoke Kalk was founded by Thorsten Lütz in 1997. By releasing music that bridges several electronic genres, including minimal, ambient, and techno, this niche label is helping to define the sound of contemporary pop.
Karaoke Kalk has put out records by Bill Wells, Hauschka, Toulouse Low Trax, and many others. Karaoke Kalk also co-released Astrobal’s debut full-length album ‘Australasie’ with LA-based Plug Research in June of this year.

Earthset – Around The Head
POPISM is the second EP by Italian band from Bologna known as Earthset. The theme is a compositional “game”, the challenge was producing a “light” and more immediate EP compared to “In a State of Altered Unconsciousness”. The title, POPISM, comes from the search for pop atmospheres and was recently used to describe that trend in music critique which recognizes artistic dignity to Pop music.
The tracks, in their order, represent a path towards increasingly Pop atmospheres. It begins with “Around the Head” a structurally schizophrenic song, the lyrics of which are an interior dialogue on betrayed expectations and passive attitude in the face of difficulties. The song was inspired in part by band members’ personal hardships and partly by an anime’s characters which were used to describe the behavior of the protagonist’s two voices.
“In the Pendant” (a pun on the word Independent) in an outburst, a criticism of the independent environment which emulates and replicates the dynamics of the world of mainstream, deadening and conforming the musical proposal to the search for the fashionable formula.
“Flush” is the song which, after the outburst, turns to more Indie-Pop textures. The lyrics tell of a circumstance where the protagonist discovers and accepts, by breaking her routine, a hidden, and to a certain extent disowned, part of herself. Like two unknown wanderers, the two egos of the protagonist meet and are reconciled in the song’s final explosion, which is followed by a bittersweet coda.
“Icarus’ Flight” concludes the quartet with an overtly pop song whose lyrics are inspired by the mythological episode of Icarus’ flight. The myth originally has a paideutic significance whose purpose is to teach the young not to disobey the fathers, whereas in the song Icarus is the champion of humanity who prefers to outdo himself, at the cost of losing his life rather than accepting the cautious and mediocre existence suggested by Daedalus’ wise advice. The final verse encapsulates the song’s meaning. “Ghosts and Afterthoughts” closes the EP. Ghosts and afterthoughts, which lead back to the psychedelic textures of the band’s more experimental songs, yet built on loops with an electronic and noise feel… signs of future developments? At the moment we’re not quite sure ourselves to be honest. An EP that is a game, a challenge, and a new proposal.
POPISM was self-produced by the band and Carlo Marrone (also producer of “In a State of Altered Unconsciousness” and other artists’ works such as “Petali” and “Malamore” by Gianluca Mondo, as well as multi-instrumentalist with, among others, My Own Parasite, Carlomargot, Murder, currently Soren Larsen). The mix, by Carlo Marrone, coherently with the EP’s theme, has explored more pop atmospheres, maintaining, at the same time, the band’s alternative rock spirit.
The drums were recorded and edited by Michele Postpischl (Ofeliadorme).
The master was done at Fonoprint Studios by Enrico Capalbo (producer of“In a State of Altered Unconsciousness”, sound engineer at Fonoprint Studios for, amongst others, Arto Lindsay, Luca Carboni, Gianmaria Testa, Paolo Fresu, Ofeliadorme, Francesco Guccini, Humberto Gatica, currently multi-instrumentalist with Soren Larsen ).
The cover art represents a sketch of watercolor shadings. Each of the four colors used identifies a member of the band and a song of the EP.
