This was something that needed to happen. There simply had to be a vision for the voice. And now that vision is here in the form of Minx’ new video for her stellar track titled ‘Female Dirtbag’. This premiere is simply an honor. After listening to the track last month (review HERE), and talking with her HERE, I realized that some artists were simply meant to be.
‘Female Dirtbag’ is not what you may think by reading just the title. You have to read between the lines. And those lines are clearly drawn with the track by Minx, who draws it with a big stick and keeps it with an even bigger mic. Empowerment can mean many things, but in Minx’ case that definition is written in stone with the simple fact that gender is not a roadblock, but the road itself. You can use that empowerment to define your character and, in turn, let that character define you to others. Beautiful in many ways.
About Minx
Minx’s brand of ‘inclusive feminism’ shines through in her stunning new track ‘Female Dirtbag’, an ode to a powerful breed of women who know what they want and how to get it, as you can see from her Dave Chappelle inspired cover for the single.
Sexy, funny lyrics delivered with smooth and sultry aplomb are fast what is giving Minx her name. Produced by Cooler Ruler Divine (Onyx, The Lost Boyz, Sean Price) it’s a perfect pairing as Minx’s love for classic Hip Hop from the ‘Golden Age’ is strong and this is undoubtedly a smooth Boombap banger.

The Impersonators
The Impersonators came into being after the demise of Finnish pop/rock band Carmen Gray in 2013 when Tommi Tikka, the other half of Carmen Gray’s songwriting team, joined forces with lyricist Antti Autio to write some new songs.
While Carmen Gray had recorded for major labels, such as Sony and Warner, the Impersonators’ story was going to be different from the get-go. With this particular group, Tikka wanted to have complete artistic control over the songs he recorded to avoid generic and sterile production typical for modern pop/rock.
For quite a while, Tikka auditioned musicians for the new group. However, after three failed attempts to put together a lineup that did justice to the new songs, he decided to make The Impersonators a group of two songwriters rather than a group of four or five musicians. Hence began the search for a great producer rather than the right musicians.
Finally, in early 2017, Tikka teamed up with Janne Saksa, a seasoned professional in making records, who became Tikka’s collaborator in the studio and took over the head producer’s reins from him. Together, they’ve arranged and produced the group’s previous singles “You Are The One,” “Burning Blue” and “Broken Snow” and “Effigy” is no exception.
The best way to describe the sound of The Impersonators is to call it Sixties-flavored “alternative pop/rock”. Their goal is to nurture and cultivate the creativity, spirit, and warmth that graced the pop records of yesteryears.

Growing up in sleepy Bakersfield, Calif., Eric Reed dreamt of making music in a creative community. He yearned to surround himself with artists to inspire, and who could inspire him, as he pursued a vision that began taking shape when he was a boy playing guitar, learning the cello, singing in the choir and hanging around recording studios in his hometown.
Today, Reed is living out that dream in the famously artistic Los Angeles enclave of Venice, where he is one of the most familiar and dynamic presences on the local rock music scene.
As a musician, he has fronted the popular L.A. band Ufonik since 2001 — recording a well-received album, drawing crowds with lengthy residencies at venues like the Viper Room and the Joint, performing on the television show “The Buzz” and playing shows with Sony artist P.J. Olsson.
Now, Reed has put some of his most personal work into his new solo album “A Perfect Life”. With tracks like “Ain’t Enough” and “Crumbling Down” having a raw Nashville country-rock sound the album shows its versatility veering off into the blues as well as some heartfelt ballads ending with “Now I Have The Beat” a moody rock song. “You will hear a blend of all of my influences growing up from Rock, Country to Americana. This album is 100% authentic and a true representation of who I am. All of the music I write comes from the heart and life experience”. – Eric Reed. It’s just a matter of time before his music reaches a larger audience.

An Interview with Gone Sugar Die (The Week in #Indie Segment)
Rarely does a band so young accomplish so much in as little a time span as the new Canadian/American super duo known as Gone Sugar Die. With their new upcoming EP titled ‘Blaack Heaart’ and their new lead single titled ‘Heartbreak Jewelry’, Gone Sugar Die have already cemented themselves as an act to follow.
Today I get to talk with both members of Gone Sugar Die Mike Hindert (The Bravery) and Patrick McWilliams (ex-The Cut Losses) about the odds of meeting and working together and their origins in earnest as well as their new music and where they are headed and much more. This interview captures this band at just the right moment because their future is secure. Enjoy!
About Gone Sugar Die
Gone Sugar Die is a smart but explosive dark romance between synth punk and indie pop. It’s the kind of collision that can inspire ethereal transcendence or ignite a disco. The guiding principle for Gone Sugar Die, aka Mike Hindert (The Bravery) and Patrick McWilliams (ex-The Cut Losses), is to make music the world can dance to.These are pop songs built on a foundation of authenticity, energized garage rock style vitality, and genuine passion, all of it shot through with high-minded ambition. Imagine Crystal Castles and The Weeknd, in the pit together, watching The Sex Pistols. The duo’s debut recording includes the work of producer/guitarist Marshall Gallagher (Teenage Wrist, 3OH!3) and drummer Anthony Burulcich (Weezer, Morrissey, The Bravery). There’s enough imagination, adventurousness, and experience between the pair at Gone Sugar Die’s center to ensure enthralling offerings of dirt pop for many years to come.
Hindert is best known as the stylish and savvy bassist of indie darlings The Bravery, a band championed by The Village Voice, Rolling Stone, MTV, and the BBC. They were responsible for anthems like “An Honest Mistake” and “Believe,” songs that still resonate today.
As lead singer and keyboardist for The Cut Losses, McWilliams had an underground hit with “Spending Time On My Own,” which garnered 100,000 Spotify streams in 72 hours. The pair connected on their mutual love of darker new-wave icons like The Cure, The Smiths, and Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark. With Gone Sugar Die, they’ve created something new with a proper nod to the past and fresh urgency.
