Jammerzine’s The Week in #Indie for 5/16/2022

In this episode of Jammerzine’s The Week in #Indie we have an exclusive interview with Athena Hiotis from Prism Waves. Also new singles, videos, and albums from Billingsley, Ghost Woman, Monte, Rubber, Beauty In Chaos, Indii G., Otoboke Beaver, and Zack Fletcher.

About Prism Waves

Jammerzine has an interview with Athena Hiotis from Prism Waves. Prism Waves (formerly RÊVE), is a band that is becoming as influential as it is branded. And being branded is a good thing. A lot of new artists don’t realize this, but you are all brands. And Athena is an expert at this from multiple angles of the music business. She is also the head of the artist-centric boutique record label Pop Riot.

In this interview, we talk with Athena about being both the frontperson of a successful band killing it on the scene as well as head of a label, making the scene, as well as everything in between (including our mutual love for Sigourney Weaver and the Alien franchise!). This is an interview with a true talent and a conversation with a genuine person.

About Billingsley

Billingsley has released their new video for the track titled ‘Long Shot’. I have no other way to start this but to say that this is a fun song. Subtly anthemic, partly quirky, and totally engulfing, this song grows on you after you approve it. I could say it’s the hook. I could say it’s the style. It just is. And it stays with you after that first listen.

Billingsley sounds like a fun band. I hope this pandemic ends soon so we can see them live. I get the feeling their shows are a party. And we’re all invited.

About Ghost Woman

Ghost Woman has released his new video for the track titled ‘Clockwork’, from his upcoming eponymous LP releasing on July 1st via Full Time Hobby.

Set in an old 8mm home movie styling, we get a solid slow burn of 2:26 filled with retroblasting Eazy Ryder style road trip goodness. The song is the real star of the video, in my opinion. Drenched in it’s own style of true grit and guitar, there is no filler from a highway killer of a track trying to find a home before it realizes it doesn’t need one. Only that place in your head or your heart. Minimalism as an audio artform has now been perfected.

About Monte

Monte has released their new video for the single titled ‘I Hate Me More’. Thrash punk in all of it’s original glory from the heart to the masses with conformity getting the first f*ck you and a no-holds-barred with every lyric, Monte gets right to the point with music that should make a solid comeback, but until then, we have Monte holding that flag. Admit it, this is how we all feel but are too afraid to say anything.

About Rubber

Rubber has today released their new video for the single titled ‘Fries & Wings’. Filmed in a location filled with character and characters, we get a sense of unity via soul, funk, R&B, and heart. Philly has a new sound and it’s Rubber.

The #Indie scene is filled with both originality and unoriginal. Rubber places firmly in the former. Amassed with talent vocally, lyrically, and musically, ‘Fries & Wings’ is but a taster of what I want to expect from a dynamic duo of this caliber. Groove now has an anthem.

About Beauty In Chaos

Beauty In Chaos has released their new video titled ‘Afterlife’, featuring Tish Ciravolo and from their latest album ‘Behind the Veil’, out now via 33.3 Music Collective.

If ‘Orion‘ is the yin, then ‘Afterlife’ is the yang. We get the bookends of the creative spectrum from a music collective that is as diverse in scope as it is in spectrum. Beautifully shot and contrasted by the locations within the video, those act as the visual accompaniment with the musical and lyrical changes within the song.

That feeling of the last second realization of the meaning of life and personal value of existence along with the unknown of what is next is presented as a soft musical soliloquy to what is, what was, what could have been, and what’s next. Transcendental within the soundscape with hints of clarity in the delivery, ‘Afterlife’ is a love letter to life and a warning to those of use who fail to appreciate it.

About Indii G.

Indii G. has released his new EP titled ‘Riverhouse’, as well as the new video for the track ‘Soul’ via Epitaph Records.

Indii G. has been solidly establishing himself for a couple years now. With ‘Riverhouse’, he takes root in the music industry as someone who is clearly sticking around. This is the deep end of the pool, and he has no problem staying afloat. A brilliant mix of chillwave, hip hop, soul, and pop, ‘Riverhouse’ spans a gamut of sonically colorful landscapes and takes ownership of his digital destiny with bits of different genres underlying his true talent: himself.

About Otoboke Beaver

Otoboke Beaver has today released their new album titled ‘Super Champon’. Energetic Japanese genre-stitching originality with sheer adorable rebellion that has such a feeling of pure energy and synergy that you can’t help but instantly fall in love with this band as well as anything they release.

While I think the songs are too short, do they really need to be when you think about it? They are just long enough to become addict to them and short enough to leave you wishing they were longer. How the f*ck does an artist or band get in your head like that? To be able to instantly turn you into a fan? I know how. They get to your head through your heart.

About Zack Fletcher

It’s always impressive when a musician is able to match melody and landscape. Records influenced by geography have the power to transport us from our current context into a new world. And that’s precisely what Zack Fletcher’s newest album, Ohio Reveries, aims to do. With glittering arrangements and vulnerable lyrics, Fletcher brings the flora and fauna of Ohio to a wider audience.

Fletcher is no lightweight when it comes to crafting gorgeous guitar music. His 2020 instrumental guitar collection Vignettes and 2019 folk masterpiece Moths in the Attic received praise from numerous indie publications, calling his music “captivating,” “beautifully crafted,” and “pristinely executed.” Listeners will soon learn that those same descriptions apply to Fletcher’s newest collection as well.

About Space Summit

Space Summit is a collaboration between the ubiquitous Marty Willson-Piper (ex-the church) and Minneapolitan Jed Bonniwell. Writing the music together, Marty handles the luminescent electric guitars and the bass whilst Jed is in charge of lead vocal duties and lyrics. The album is produced by Marty and producer/engineer Dare Mason who also plays keyboards. Phoebe Tsen sings harmony vocals, Olivia Willson-Piper plays the strings and Eddie John the drums. All the usual suspects from recent Noctorum and MOAT projects make an appearance, with the exception of Phoebe who lives in Borneo, yes, really!

Space Summit’s music was conceived in cyberspace – and was recorded in America, Borneo, Sweden and the UK. The music created on Space Summit’s debut album by Jed and Marty is simultaneously modern and classic dreampop –the subtle shading of dark and light with layered, sonic textures on every track. This album is one of the fascinating results of Marty’s Sessioneer Series, where he works with discovered collaborators from around the globe on new musical ideas.

Space Summit started as discussions around music and guitar technique in 2013 and eventually flourished into songwriting and musical collaboration. Marty would provide some musical sketches, chords or riffs – Jed would then add lyrics and additional musical ideas, and each song would continue to evolve back and forth until a complete demo had been created – finally taking the songs into the studio to record them with other musicians. With touring coming to a halt in 2020, the lockdown provided the time needed to bring this album to completion.

About Kepa Lehtinen

A new musical excursion from Kepa Lehtinen …Face Plant is a six-track mini-album of original contemporary classical music written for piano, contrabass, and theremin. . The theremin is a century-old electronic instrument that’s played by hand gestures rather than direct contact.

Nobody uses theremin like I do. It is not a solo instrument anymore. Because theremin responds to even the slightest movement (even to the player’s breath) it has become the organic sonic cornerstone of my music. It is the element that makes the soundscape really come to life ”

Face Plant “I am 50 years old skateboarder. I have always loved the expression ”Face Plant” (an instance of falling face-first into or onto something.) If you skate on the limits of your skills you are going to fall at some point. It is going to hurt.”

Kontula Kontula (2018) is my most beloved composition. (740 000 streams on Spotify) ”Kontula ” is a new solo remake of the piano version of the theme.

About Murdocco

Mariana Murdocco, who goes by her surname, ‘Murdocco’ is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to her style and musical output. With her velvety and sultry tones, Murdocco’s songs allude to personal experiences where she transmits deep emotions, immersing you into her world.

Using the piano and often heavy bass lines, she delivers a melodic, quirky and unique sound. Speaking of her upcoming release Murdocco says “I hope that my single ‘Rainy Day’ will inspire you to speak up and say all that you’ve been holding back, without fears or taboos. Let it out, you ought to say it!”.

Originally from Uruguay, Murdocco is a London-based singer-songwriter, her original productions are a fusion of live instruments and Electronica, citing Bjork and The Knife as influences.

Murdocco started in Barcelona with her ever-evolving band ( Jose Martinez on guitar), she released a number of EPs produced by David Okuniev, which was much more Rock orientated. This solo project has taken her down a different path where she finds herself being much more experimental and free to explore other genres. This is the first of a number of releases that will be coming out over the forthcoming months.

Welcome to Murdocco’s world.

About Maddox Jones

Northampton’s very own claim to fame, Maddox Jones returns with his new single ‘Somewhere There’s A Plan (Believe It)’. Jumping straight from his support slot with Thomas Headon at ReviveLive last week, Maddox Jones brings a level of reassurance to his listeners with this feel-good, future-retro pop song that will loom large inside those much-loved summertime playlists.

As former frontman of The Departure (Parlophone Records) and no stranger to touring with The Killers, Feeder and Placebo, the new pop direction that he now brings harbours a certain snappy groove that shows the versatility and joy he can bring to his music. It has really captured 70-style funk and the uplifting sounds of The Brothers Johnson, Daft Punk and Caribou.

“There’s some uncertainty with things opening up and whether the timing is right for that, maybe this song will bring comfort to someone who’s still waiting to re-engage with the world, that things might be hard right now but they will eventually be ok again. The song also has a playful side, reminding us to find joy in the small things: “Let this melody from my head take you somewhere else instead”.

Written and produced alongside David Crawford over the past year, ‘Somewhere There’s A Plan (Believe It)’ features good friends of Jones who brought a certain level of maturity to the track. Lewis Cardinal sits in on bass and guitar, whilst Christian Pinchbeck (Girlhood) is strapped on the saxophone to spark lift-off. In addition, Louis Souyave (who worked on Jones’ ‘Headspace’ EP) sprinkles his production magic over the tune, elevating it to perfection.

Maddox Jones made his solo debut in 2020 with the synth-heavy electronica of his ‘Headspace’ EP. Well-received as that EP was, Jones is never one to sit still creatively – and he proved the worth of his songwriting nous with 70,000+ Spotify plays of last single “Can’t Wait For The Summer”. With ‘Somewhere There’s A Plan (Believe It)’ ready to go, 2021 is shaping up to be just the tonic for the East Midlands singer-songwriter and his growing army of fans.

Maddox Jones will also be releasing a short-film animation to accompany the release directed by Alex Gwyn Davies.

“The video is about escaping the matrix of expectations that most of us seem to end up via school, family, media etc. The typical 9-5 doing something you don’t necessarily care about, living to blow off steam for a couple of days at the weekend and maybe on holiday. Then ultimately, finding a catalyst that can interrupt that and tasting freedom”

With a debut album imminent, his work has been praised far and wide by SPIN, American Songwriter, the BBC, and many more media outlets across the globe.

About Human Drama

Human Drama is a band that has endured and ultimately triumphed. Musical troubadours who have weathered countless storms, both personal and professional, while continuing to create their unique brand of music.

Their latest offering is Blurred Images, ten songs that were written and released as stand-alone singles, now gathered together into one collection by Los Angeles based Sunset Blvd. Records.

About ToBy

ToBy has released “Are We Ridin,” his newest single and the first taste of his upcoming debut album L’Esprit, which will be released on October 15, 2021 via Magnetic Moon Records. Out now on all DSPs, the driving and energetic track features an industrial inspired beat that is matched nicely with ToBy’s brash flow and braggadocious lyrics, topped off with a chorus that will easily get stuck in one’s head. A new video for the track is also out today, which features ToBy in a custom motorcycle suit destroying columns of art, while also previewing a more melodic and somber cut from L’Esprit at the very end. The two songs in the video perfectly encapsulate the range of emotions and moods that L’Esprit and ToBy bring to the table.

Blending elements of modern rap music, introspective pop, and indie rock, L’Esprit follows a narrative and a character that is loosely based on ToBy himself and is his most personal work to date. It details specific instances in ToBy’s life involving depression, anxiety, grief, lost romance, and self doubt. The intent of writing about these experiences on L’Esprit is to connect with listeners who have similar stories to himself.

“I believe in unity through specificity; by sharing our unique nuanced specific experiences we stand to become much closer to one another because we are not as different as we want to believe,” says ToBy. “The more specific we can get with our lives and our stories, the more it will resonate with a community because all of our lives are pretty specific. I think by encapsulating my specific experience and journey as a person and an artist who thinks heavy shit, I can connect with someone who may need that and who might feel a little more alone because they are trapped in their head and believes no one else thinks like them.”

L’Esprit is also an ode to ToBy’s late grandma who passed away from cancer in 2020. ToBy was extremely close to his grandma, as she helped raise him and always supported his musical journey when others in ToBy’s life did not. “Making music growing up in Miami was not very easy. It was a very judgmental environment. It was my parents wanting the best for me, they were immigrants from Haiti and didn’t understand why anyone would want to be a rapper,” says ToBy. “They didn’t approve and I was combating a lot of criticism from them. My grandma however I felt she really knew me and understood where my head was at. She would often step up and defend me in those conversations and would tell my mom to let me do what I want to do. She never got a chance to hear the songs from this album, but she was always very proud of me.”

“L’Esprit is French for The Spirit. It’s supposed to have many meanings but The Spirit literally would mean the spirit of someone who has passed,” continues ToBy. “What was really hard about this album is that I named it before my Grandma passed away. A lot of it was coming together while my Grandma’s health declined from the cancer, so it was a way for me to anticipate the inevitable.”

“I recorded a conversation between my grandma and I and it was about six minutes. I took a look at the songs I did have done already and I sequenced them in an order to tell a story that loosely mirrored my own experience with relationships, anxiety, and depression; life shit that everyone goes through but my own lens,” he continues. “I used her recording to narrate that journey. There’s a narrative throughline through the record and she is the guide so to speak for the listener, kind of like how she was mine in real life.”

The 11-track album showcases ToBy’s versatility as an artist perfectly. On L’Esprit, ToBy bounces from different genre and mood effortlessly, while the record as a whole still remains a cohesive body of work. Standouts include the emotional, indie rock influenced ballad “Boyfriend,” (“’Boyfriend’ is one of the best songs I’ve ever made. We had the idea in the studio to make a really big rock opera section closer to when we had to turn the album in, and it turned out amazing and I’m in love with,” says ToBy).

There is also the late 2010’s Soundcloud rap inspired “2FUKKINCOCKY,” the most bombastic song on the record (“I have never rapped harder in my life and I am so proud of the rapping on that song,” adds ToBy), and the sparse and melodic “Ghost,” which details the pain and anxiety ToBy has felt as well as lost love in his life over and acoustic guitar and trap drums (“‘Ghost’ might be my favorite song on the album. When we got the master back, it didn’t sound like me and that’s what I look for whenever I pick and choose songs that I am really into that I made; I look for songs that don’t sound like me. It’s a testament to the work that my producers and engineers put into the record,” chimes in ToBy).

About Sweet Imperfections

Sweet Imperfections is led by singer songwriter Bri Schillings and a collective of Southern California’s most talented musicians and writers. From a child Bri was drawn to music early, feeling the connectivity and energy between nature and sound. Following this magnetic pull, she found herself picking out melodies she had heard on different instruments and remembers feeling that awe and magic, as if she had unlocked a secret door to a magical world where she felt safe, understood, beautiful, inspired, and where she learned what love was. Her relationship continued to bloom, she explored any instrument she could and found each instrument had its own voice and would write its own song. She loves sitting down with music and saying ”Let’s go on an adventure’ and let heart, hand and voice flow”.

She began with Violin but quickly moved to cello and its warm earthy tones. She attributes her ability to play by ear while playing a string instrument and she acquired an audio-graphic memory. With no real musical training besides Elementary and High school Music class, Bri continued to develop her instrumental voice, writing all original pieces without boundaries or limitations. Bri started journaling daily from the age of 11 and at 12 years old she began weaving her writings into her music. At the age of 15 she wrote her first complete song on the piano called, Waking Up. It is as if that 15 year old me was sending a message to my future self. “Music is my first language,” she says, “It connects us and conveys the feelings I cannot express through words alone. It has been my greatest form of communication”.

Bri is as fun as she is funky and as playful as she is deeply connected and spiritual. She feels that music has the power to heal through what she calls “soul vitamins”, Bri has a profoundly strong connection to music and feels, “The freedom I discovered when I began to sing and write original songs not only became an outlet for the most challenging times in my life, it was my best friend, when there was no one else to turn to, music held me, inspired me, healed me, music loved me and taught me how to love myself. I write, sing and play songs that are born from the heart. They are not just of me but through me and I want music to be the conduit of heart vibrations that heal myself and hopefully others”.

Bri’s seductive and powerful voice will hold you in a warm embrace and take you on a journey where the heart and the soul meet.

About Yelpy

Born in Dublin, Ireland Yelpy remembers where it all began. On his 15th birthday he and his dad were in a music shop getting his sister a keyboard when his dad asked, completely out of the blue “how would you like a guitar for your birthday?”. Until that moment he had never given music much thought, but little did he know that music would become Yelpy’s one true passion.

He played that first guitar morning, noon and night and within a year was forming his first rock band “Awakened”. Awakened played quite a lot together all through Yelpy’s school years. In fact he says playing music was the only thing that kept him sane, as school was never really his strong suit.

After leaving school Yelpy started college, although it wasn’t just any old college, no instead he attended Europe’s famous Rock School in Ballyfermot, Dublin. There he met lots of like-minded people and formed his second band “Whover” (pronounced WHO-VER). Whover was a great experience for Yelpy. They toured all over Ireland and played on TV and radio. It gave Yelpy his first real taste of being a “rock star” and he loved it. While in Whover Yelpy worked with three of the most talented musicians he has ever know and they taught him a lot.

As Whover ran its course Yelpy began to play more and more with his two sisters Ruth and Niamh until they finally made it official and formed “Yellow Room”. As Yellow Room Yelpy and his sisters played all over Ireland and again on TV and radio. They got to play with some of Ireland’s greatest talent such as John Spillane, Brian Downey, Maria Doyle Kennedy, The Revs, Mickey Joe Heart, Liam O’Maonlai and many more. They also released two albums “Outside” and the self-titled “Yellow Room”. After the second album Yelpy decided it was time to peruse a solo career as a singer/songwriter and move to LA.

Currently Yelpy is preforming in LA in such venues as The Roxy, The Viper Room, The House Of Blues and The Rolling Stone whilst also managing to find the time to record his debut solo album. Being based in LA has also given him the opportunity to write and produce music for film and TV.

About Royals

Royals are a five piece pop punk based out of Southampton. Formed in 2019, the band got off to a quick start releasing several singles and music videos followed by their debut EP ‘Painted Gold’. The band headed into the studio in late 2019 with Neck Deep’s Seb Barlow to record a line of singles ready for release in 2020. The first of those singles was ‘Out Of Reach’ which was released to an amazing reception. The song was featured in Spotify’s ‘New Punk Tracks’ playlist and added to Idobi Radio’s rotation.

The band followed this up with ‘Fair-Weather Friend’ which was also featured on Spotify’s ‘New Punk Tracks’ playlist as well as ‘Pop Punk’s Not Dead’ and it also earned them a place on Alt Press’ ‘Top 10 Rising UK Pop Punk Bands’ list.

About Starrgazy

Starrgazy is the musical partnership of vocalist Lucie Hill and multi-instrumentalist Benjamin Wesley Morgan, based in Cornwall, UK.

Having briefly crossed musical paths in 2015, Lucie and Benjamin discovered a shared love for the ethereal sounds of dreampop and post-punk. However, their schedules conspired against them and the pair continued on their respective musical journeys for the next 5 years, both knowing that their paths would cross again at a more auspicious time.

Fast forward to 2020 and the duo reconnected during a period of lockdown. A tentative song idea, sent via email as an ice-breaker, snowballed into a prolific period of remote-writing, and Starrgazy was born.

Starrgazy have developed a distinctive sound, taking inspiration from a wide range of sources: the timeless dreampop of Mazzy Star and Cocteau Twins; Angelo Badalamenti’s Twin Peaks soundtrack; the brittle tonality of post-punk and new-wave; and the musical haze of shoegaze.

‘Bad Timing’ is a heart wrenching alt-pop ballad gives the listener a deeply personal insight into her life “This song is about a specific relationship, where the person broke my heart in an emotionally manipulative and frustrating manner. About Reptaliens

Oregon natives Bambi and Cole started Reptaliens in the mid-2010s as a multi-faceted vehicle for their most adventurous urges. Across their first two Captured Tracks albums —FM-2030 (2017) and VALIS (2019)—they established themselves as dedicated dreamers and deep thinkers, filling their wooly, homespun synth-pop with meditations on outré science fiction and philosophy. With some help from friends, they’ve been able to tackle big questions and explore vast sound worlds. Tapping Julian Kowalski (guitar), Bryson Hansen (synth), and Tyler Vergian (drums) for their previous albums and shows, Reptaliens have bewitched crowds during extended national tours with STRFKR, Turnover, and Turnstile.

By contrast, and somewhat by necessity, Multiverse brings those lyrical concerns closer to home. “I didn’t get lost in these worlds like I normally do writing lyrics,” says Bambi. “It was way more reflective of the world around me.” And so past source material like cults and Stockholm Syndrome gave way to more immediate muses—like the pair’s frequent recording companion, a Labrador/pit bull mix named Hambone. Meanwhile, the music grew in a fresh direction, a jangle-prone timeless form of subtly psychedelic guitar-pop, finding occasional dark cul-de-sacs but ultimately tending toward the light and breeze.

Recording at home on the sleepy west side of Portland, with deer and woodpeckers regularly popping into their tree-lined backyard, the duo played all of the instruments themselves this time. The result is a departure that in fact only emphasizes the band’s melodic gifts. While Bambi’s distinctive bass-playing is more direct and driving, her airy vocals preserve Reptaliens’ soft-focus otherworldliness. Even when she’s singing about something as relatable as losing touch with her mind and body during isolation on “I Feel Fine,” there’s still an uncanny edge to her delivery. And so lines about sniffing glue and melting into the couch become reality-bending evocations of normal lockdown anxieties.

With mixing duties divided between Mikaelin “Blue” Bluespruce (Solange, Blood Orange, Mariah Carey) and Ross Brown from Kansas City bands Shy Boys and Fullbloods, Multiverse is a crisp pop record packed with surprising flourishes, from the crunchy chorus of “I Can’t Hide” to the smoky, serpentine guitar solo on “Jump.” On the recording front, Bambi and Cole applied lessons learned from making their 2020 EP, Wrestling, a synth-steeped darkwave detour that was the duo’s introduction to working alone from start to finish.

Those releases represent just two of the creative planes nested comfortably within the wider Reptaliens sphere, a prismatic notion that inspired the album’s title. Striking out into refreshing new directions at every turn, like its creators, Multiverse indeed feels like a symbolic crossroads. And one that only yields more possibilities with each visit.

About Solemn Brigham

Solemn is uniquely equipped to animate each of these relics with the specificity they deserve. The rapper, whose work with his fellow North Carolinian, L’Orange, as the duo Marlowe has been critically acclaimed, is one of the most vocally acrobatic working today, able to contort himself into a dizzying array of different flows and inflections, accomplishing alone the sort of musical variety that sprawling collectives try and fail to achieve.

Across its 14 songs, South Sinner Street argues for Solemn Brigham as one of the most exciting artists in underground hip-hop, a technical virtuoso who also happens to be one of the genre’s most surprising, most deeply personal songwriters. The album evokes the feeling of climbing onto a house’s roof to survey the nearly-burning city around you, with all the peril that entails––but also all the possibility.

About Beauty In Chaos

“Orion” is the new video/single from Beauty In Chaos. This track and its accompanying otherworldly video feature the captivating Whitney Tai. BIC’s curator Michael Ciravolo says “Musically, Orion continues on the path set by “Stranger”, the final track on ‘The Storm Before The Calm’. Whitney’s lyrics and soaring voice were a perfect match for this track and sets the tone beautifully for our next record!”

Tai adds “When Beauty In Chaos reached out to me with the opportunity to co-write on a song for their upcoming album, I was immediately hypnotized by the glacial, meandering and crystalline use of guitars against this haunting and dark verbed-out atmosphere. My mind went down the rabbit hole of the past two years that our globe has faced. “Orion” is the ego of destruction. It’s about breaking free from the manipulators mind and severing the ties of deception. A story of an a-type personality, “the hunter”, and how the roles narcissism and exploitation torment the fears and strengths of the human psyche”.

As for this new video, Ciravolo says “We try to make each of our videos different from the others, while being true to the singer and the lyrics. “Orion” is like nothing we have done before; it has a very cinematic ‘big-screen’ look to it… and was really a lot of fun to make!”

About The Darkness

“It’s Love, Jim” is an all-out, high intensity, rock ‘n’ roll barrage. The video reflects the unimaginable effects of an intimate encounter of the alien kind. It captures archive footage of the band conducting a séance as a yearning otherworldly spirit unleashes its inescapable powers through Justin, Dan, Rufus and Frankie, as well as some unsuspecting cattle outside. Justin says, “This song (herein referred to as “she/her”) is all about an extra-terrestrial goddess of other worldly beauty. She’s fast, powerful, not of this earth. Her sensual symphony nestles in your ear and lays mind eggs that seep confidence liquid into your brains. You’ll feel invincible all day long, and everything will go right after you hear it. Yeah, so it’s really catchy and should be number 1 all around the world please.”

“It’s Love, Jim” is the latest single from The Darkness’ opus Motorheart. The track follows the release of “Jussy’s Girl” that oozes rock n’ roll extravagance, the high-octane riffola “Nobody Can See Me Cry” and the growling, pounding title track that pays homage to a devoted sex robot.

Billboard raves, Motorheart “is filled with what one would hope to find on a Darkness album: blazing guitar riffs, tongue-in-cheek lyrics and Hawkins’ signature soaring falsetto,” and declares that the “album helps solidify the band’s legacy as one of the United Kingdom’s preeminent rock acts of the past two decades,” while Alternative Press gushes, “On their seventh album, the four-piece are back at it, creating joyous, defiant rock that pummels and shakes.”

With a back catalogue overflowing with sonic gold and a live reputation that most bands can only dream of attaining, The Darkness will be showcasing the live potency of Motorheart on their extensive 22-date UK headline tour kicking off in November followed by a European run at the top of next year. A true spectacle to behold, fans will be treated to brand new songs from the album as well as hits from across their award-winning, platinum-selling back catalogue. Stay tuned for North American 2022 tour dates to be announced.

About Robert Taira Wilson

Robert Taira Wilson is an English singer-songwriter whose music mixes folk with modern alternative songwriting. He is currently based in Tokyo and, in recent years, has released both solo and collaborative records.

‘Due to the pandemic, I’ve taken the time away from performing to write a body of new material. For every time you may have felt disowned or dislocated, removed or redundant. This song delves deep into that moment and cries out for escape and healing. A departure from my usual sound, the song features an arpeggiated electric guitar in place of the accustomed acoustic. Written and recorded entirely from my home studio “Blackbird” will be my first release since 2019’s ‘Shine Shine Child’ EP.’

About High Street

High Street is a hard rock, heavily blues-influenced group that originated in Chicago. Now based in Los Angeles, the band is igniting their generation to partake in the most authentic, stripped-down, and honest type of rock and roll there is. Led by lead guitarist and songwriter Erik Findling and lead vocalist Noxigen, the band is delivering a fresh spin on classic rock with modern day influences.

It all started back in the late 2000s in the attic of Erik Findling’s Chicago household. The young middle-schooler – who first picked up a guitar at the age of 4 – and his older brother, Kurt, on drums, assembled a group with some of their musically-inclined classmates. Their attic rehearsal space looked out onto the corner of High Street, inspiring the band’s name.

As young teens, they started out as a classic rock cover band with hopes of playing a few parties around the neighborhood – never imagining this would be the beginning of a long and exciting journey. At the age of 11 Erik started creating original music opening the door to many new opportunities. With Erik’s exceptional creativity, three EPs of original music were soon recorded by prominent producers in Chicago, such as Sean O’Keefe – known for his work with Fall Out Boy and Plain White T’s. The Chicago club circuit quickly took notice and booked them all around the city at venues such as the renowned Double Door, Subterranean, and Hard Rock Chicago. This was the beginning of a new chapter for the band that would take them to the next level.

Nevertheless, just as they were really gaining momentum, Erik – the youngest member of the group – watched the band dissolve as the other members went off to college. Alas, the band was no more. However, on his own, Erik went on a personal path to develop as an artist, exploring new genres of music such as jazz and classical. He’s performed at hotspots across L.A. and

Chicago, even performing at the GRAMMYs official after party in 2017. Shortly after moving out to Los Angeles, Erik found the inspiration to revive High Street permanently. This time, a fresh set of talent has been assembled to pick up right where they left off to continue the High Street legacy on a larger scale.

About Chuck Wright’s Sheltering Sky

Long-time bassist for multi-platinum rockers Quiet Riot, Chuck Wright, proudly presents the release of the first single from his new solo album. Wright has also worked alongside such rock music luminaries as Alice Cooper, Greg Allman, Ted Nugent, various members of Guns N’ Roses and Kiss to name a few, and now embarks on his first-ever solo excursion.

The first single is a hard-rocking, intense interpretation of Björk’s 1995 hit “Army of Me” and is accompanied by a video that represents Wright’s exploration into disorder and parallels with the recent chaotic state of world affairs. The visuals include a 3D animation of an “army” of Ruth Bader Ginsburgs, the late Supreme Court Justice, feminist icon, and steadfast advocate for women’s rights and gender equality. “I chose to recognize the late Justice Ginsburg in this video as she was such a formidable presence on and off the bench. She challenged the status quo knocking down legal obstacles to women’s equality and inspired an army of believers.”

The track “Army Of Me” features several of Wright’s musical peers including the late Pat Torpey (Mr. Big) on drums, guitarist Lanny Cordola (House of Lords), and Sven Martin (Jonathan Davis Band) on keyboards along with songstress Whitney Tai, the recent “Best Vocalist” winner at The Intercontinental Music Awards.

The full-length album from Chuck Wright’s Sheltering Sky, coming in 2022, features over 30 guest performers including members of Mr. Big, Skid Row, Tesla, Dream Theater, Great White, Asia, Jefferson Starship, acclaimed solo artists Allen Hinds, Toshi Yanagi, and many others. Wright is finally stepping out on his own with a wide range of genres, from Jazz Fusion, Prog, Funk to in-your-face Hard Rock, which was in itself one of the things that led him to want to forge his own way and create this unique collection of songs within his “Sheltering Sky” project.

Beauty in Chaos – The Delicate Balance Of All Things (Rapid Reiteration Mix)

Beauty in Chaos has today released their new video for the remix track titled ‘The Delicate Balance Of All Things’ (Rapid Reiteration Mix).

We also have an exclusive interview with Michael Ciravolo, Wayne Hussey, and Cinthya Hussey on how the video came to be and how it was filmed while staying safe in the age of COVID.

Check out the entire interview HERE.

‘The Delicate Balance Of All Things’ (Rapid Reiteration Mix) and video is clearly a massive departure for BIC in both video and audio realms. The video, for one, was shot remotely using an entirely different crew in Brazil and, besides the obvious that Beauty in Chaos’ Michael Ciravolo is not in the video, the departure is in the style and execution.

The track is even more of a complete departure stylistically from what has come before. Now featuring Cinthya Hussey on lead vocals, Wayne on background vocals, and astonishing guitar work by Nick Johnston, is a stellar mix of darkness, suave, and the world, in places you would never expect. The bass gives off an almost ‘Peter Gabriel’ vibe at times before snapping into place in lockstep with the beat that, at times, drags you into the hook but in a good way.

To me, this is an almost Pink Floyd level shift sonically and visually that gives a hint that Beauty in Chaos is becoming comfortable at being different.

ABOUT BEAUTY IN CHAOS & ‘THE DELICATE BALANCE OF ALL THINGS’ (RAPID REITERATION MIX) FT. CINTHYA HUSSEY

The original version of this song, penned by BIC curator Michael Ciravolo and The Mission’s Wayne Hussey, appears on ‘The Storm Before The Calm’ album. Along with BIC producer Michael Rozon, Ciravolo set out to strip down the ominous tone of the original especially for this remix release. After hearing Wayne’s wife Cinthya’s rendition of The Smith’s ‘Everyday Is Like Sunday’, the idea emerged for her to sing this new version along with Wayne.

This remix was created by legendary producer Tim Palmer (David Bowie, The Mission, U2, The Cure). BIC main-man, Michael Ciravolo says “Tim has always been one of my favorite producers … and one of the silver-linings of this lockdown is that he has time to do this and two other remixes for our new album”.

Far from being a typical band, with its revolving/evolving lineup, videos are truly the ‘face’ of BIC. Ciravolo’s goal is to make each visually different from its predecessor and this new video certainly checks that box!

“When we returned the track, the delicate balance of all things, to Michael with Cinthya’s newly-completed vocals, Michael’s reaction was to declare he loved it and that we had to shoot a video for this version, remixed by the redoubtable Tim Palmer,” said Wayne Hussey.

“With the option of traveling to LA to shoot out of the question due to current Covid-19 restrictions, Cinthya, being in the trade somewhat, contacted a few of her colleagues to ascertain who exactly might be interested in helping us shoot a video in Sao Paulo. Enter the Antipodean Mark Bromilow. Mark and Cinthya had previously acted together on a Kit-Kat advert and had remained friends. The many credits to his name include time spent as artistic director for Cirque De Soleil, where he met the Brazilian Natalia Presser, the featured aerial artist in this video.”

“Locations were scouted, Cinthya having the idea of filming in an old theatre or abandoned warehouse – somewhere strange – while Mark came up with the idea of filming in a currently-closed-down-due-to-Covid circus in Sao Paulo. So the Big Top it was. Using David Lynch as inspiration, we aimed for the video to evoke something otherworldly and magical. So, how did we do?”

The full 27-track collection of the ‘Out Of Chaos Comes…’ LP (available on CD) is deep and diverse and comes with a few surprises, including Ashton Nyte’s gorgeous acoustic version of ‘The Outside’, and an acoustic/mellotron drenched ‘Memory Of Love’ from Human Drama’s Johnny Indovina. There are also some new and fantastic guitar moments from Simon Hinkler (The Mission), Richard Fortus (Guns N’ Roses), Mark Gemini Thwaite (Peter Murphy. The Wonder Stuff), and Nick Johnston.

‘Out Of Chaos Comes… is now available on vinyl (8 tracks), CD (14 tracks), and digitally (27 tracks). The full digital version is included with an LP / CD purchase. Limited-edition colored vinyl also includes an exclusive cover-art poster, signed by many of the artists involved. It can be ordered in its various formats HERE.

The Brightside of 2020 (A Jammerzine Exclusive)

Jammerzine’s The Week in #Indie presents a special about the best in independent music. We all know that 2020 wasn’t the best of years and we’ve all had to endure isolation physically and mentally. But we must highlight those wonderful bright sides of this year with this presentation of great music.

Beauty in Chaos ft. Kat Leon – Stranger (Holy Wars – Cruel World Mix)

Beauty in Chaos have teamed up with holy Wars’ Kat Leon and Nick Perez to come up with a completely different and sublimely beautiful reimaging of ‘Stranger’ from the ‘Out of Chaos Comes…’.

The video is a clear departure stylistically from the past videos of Beauty in Chaos. Featuring a more haunting and introverted visual, the video encapsulates with dark precision the mood of the new song, taking a dark turn from the original version in ways that almost hint ‘alternate universe’.

Not quite industrial, not quite darkwave, not quite post-modern, not quite dystopian, the Holy Wars Cruel World Mix of ‘Stranger’ rolls uphill to a dark crescendo with the bravado of original music and the swagger of legends.

Check out our Q & A with Michael Ciravolo, curator of all things beautiful and chaotic, about this new mix below.

How did you and Kat Leon come to work together?

I stumbled on Holy Wars after they opened up for a Schecter band… Papa Roach. I thought Kat had an amazing voice. I checked out a few of their videos on YouTube and just reached out. She and Nick came by and we hit it off well. They are nice, genuine and some of the hardest working people I have met in this business. After Michael Rozon and I did the music to what eventually became ‘Stranger’, I sent it to her and she poured her heart, soul and ‘story’ into the lyrics. It is my favorite track on ‘The Storm Before The Calm’, and I look forward to having her on the next record.

The new video seems to be an even bigger departure stylistically than the previous video. Is that a conscious decision and is the new remixes an influence on that?

I think if you look at all our BIC videos, I think you will see sort of that ‘pattern’. I strive for each video to be as different visually from its predecessor as possible. I had seen Fre’s work on a few Holy Wars’ videos and felt it was a perfect visual counterpart to Nick’s remix. With this in mind, I was happy that I could pull the ‘Temple Of Desire’ video together as quickly as we did as we needed to sit between this new ‘Stranger’ video and ‘A Kind Cruelty’. This new video is also as different visually as it is musically from the original version that closes out ‘The Storm Before The Calm’ vinyl.

Is the current album of remixes showing a hint at what the new album could be or may be?

I certainly love the ‘elements’ that the great and diverse cast of artists used in creating their individual remixes on ‘Out Of Chaos Comes…’. Not sure what of that will seep into the new album yet. I do know that I am looking forward to having both Kat Leon and Cinthya Hussey; who are a big part of this remix album, on what comes next. I think my off-the-cuff description of ‘Bauhaus meets Bjork’ is going to have to suffice…. for now 🙂 .

ABOUT ‘STRANGER (HOLY WARS – CRUEL WORLD MIX)’

Beauty in Chaos announces the third video/single from their ‘Out Of Chaos Comes…’ album – ‘Stranger’ (Holy Wars -Cruel World Mix) featuring Kat Leon. This extreme sonic treatment to the original ‘Cocteau Twins-esque’ version that appears on ‘The Storm Before The Calm’ was created by Holy Wars guitarist Nick Perez.

BIC’s main-man Michael Ciravolo says “Since Beauty In Chaos is not a typical band, our videos are really the ‘face’ of BIC, I strive for each video to be different and as much of a 180-degree shift from the previous as possible! Fre’s video treatment on this video is certainly light years different than ‘Temple Of Desire’ so I can check that box! ‘Stanger’ is one of my favorite songs we have done. This was certainly a popular choice for many of the artists to remix, and I really love what Nick did with the song and his deconstructing approach, injecting sort of Massive Attack / ‘90s NIN sonics to it. As soon as I heard it, I knew it would be perfect for Fre’s editing style.”

Kat Leon adds “The reimagination of “Stranger” by Nick Perez (Holy Wars) is one of my favorites. I love how he restructured the song and made a new arrangement giving it an overall mechanical, dark, and industrial vibe. The music video for this track, edited by Fre Pacheco, compliments the song well with its intense and thought-provoking imagery. The idea to bury one’s self is the feeling in this video- using footage I previously shot waiting for the right track to showcase it and this remix of Stranger seemed to be a perfect fit. I would say the video for this remix was much of a remix itself using footage from my personal arsenal, footage from the original “Stranger” music video, and additional imagery bridging all worlds together.”

“The Cruel World remix is a dark cinematic interpretation of “Stranger”. The original piece was so lush and beautiful that it seemed it would be a great challenge to make it ugly and cold using heavy distortion, industrial elements, and tape”
Nick Perez (Holy Wars)

Beauty in Chaos – Temple of Desire (Box Cutter Mix)

Beauty in Chaos has just released their new video for the remix track titled ‘Temple of Desire (Box Cutter Mix)’, from the new album ‘Out Of Chaos Comes…’.

Marked as much of a departure in the video style as much as a stylistic shift in music for Beauty in Chaos, as a project, ‘Temple of Desire (Box Cutter Mix)’ not so much amps up the beauty in said chaos but takes it completely out of the box and the norm. Almost to the point that it is unrecognizable. This is what I love about groups such as Beauty in Chaos; the first rule is there are no rules.

While the video may have more of a stripped and down to earth feel, the music goes in somewhat of a different direction by combining beat driven effects and an enhanced groove with Rafe Pearlman’s lush and gorgeous vocal track combined with Tyler Bate’s groove/melodic guitar.

Divergence never felt so unifying.

It can be ordered in its various formats on their official store HERE.

Check out our other features with Beauty in Chaos HERE.

ABOUT ‘OUT OF CHAOS COMES…’

As ‘Beauty Re-Envisioned’ was the counterpart to Beauty In Chaos’ debut release, ‘Out Of Chaos Comes…’ is the counterpart to ‘’The Storm Before The Calm’. 27 diverse remixes and reinterpretations by an equally diverse and talented mix of producers, artists, and deejays. The second video/single from the album is Tyler Bates’s Box Cutter Mix of “Temple Of Desire”.

BIC’s curator, Michael Ciravolo adds “I really enjoyed the process the first time of handing over the keys and seeing where others took those songs that I was so close to, so I figured why not give it another go!”. In addition to Tyler Bates; BIC enlisted The Cure’s Roger O’Donnell, Marilyn Manson’s Paul Wiley, former Mission, and Peter Murphy guitarist Mark Gemini Thwaite, and John Fryer of 4AD fame among others for ‘Out Of Chaos Comes…’.

“Tyler has been a dear friend for over two decades and is one of the most talented hardest working people I know. I guess if there is a silver lining in the Covid-world we are currently in, it would be that Tyler had the time to do this remix. We had talked about it for ‘Beauty Re-Envisioned’ but the guy has major movies stacked up to complete.”. I really love what Tyler did with the remix as he both condensed and expanded it!

When I came into the studio and played the original idea of the song to Michael Rozon, he immediately said we need to get Rafe to sing this one. Both he and Tyler had worked with Rafe in the past … and I trust both of these guys beyond. I could not be happier with what Rafe brought with this song. Musically it is a bit different from what I usually write, an odd alternating of major and minor chords; which takes the write vocalist to not only hear that but to enhance with their melody. Rafe hit it out the part’

Videos are really important to Beauty In Chaos, as we are not a typical ‘live’ band, so the videos are indeed the ‘face’ of BIC. I really strive to have each one unique and different from its predecessor. It’s certainly undeniable this new video is almost a polar opposite to ‘A Kind Cruelty’. Honestly, it’s sort of understated, lighthearted visual is way different from any of our other videos and I love that! It certainly sets up the pendulum to swing back hard on the next one which we plan for a December release. Hats off again to Vicente Cordero for making this one happen.”.
Michael Ciravolo

“Music is very personal to me, so it’s rare that I remix or re-imagine another artist’s music. But after decades of sharing our musical experiences through friendship, I was thrilled when Michael Ciravolo urged me to create a new expression of “Temple of Desire,” that is truly my own. The original song is already amazing, so the bar was a high mark to reach, but. Rafe Pearlman’s evocative lyrics and soulful vocal performance inspired me to explore a new dimension for this track. I love both versions!”
Tyler Bates (musician/Film-TV composer).

“I love the blend of passion and coolness with a good dose of humor and lightheartedness. makes it a bit more real and honest. and the covid masks are hilarious. sets it in this whacked moment in time. Stoked to be a part of it”.
Rafe Pearlman

ABOUT BEAUTY IN CHAOS & ‘TEMPLE OF DESIRE (BOX CUTTER MIX)’

The ‘Box Cutter’ remix takes the song in a more condensed and esoteric direction, while the video offers an introspective, behind-the-scenes look. Tyler Bates, who also scored the music for Guardians Of The Galaxy, John Wick, and The Watchmen (among other films), notes,” Music is very personal to me, so it’s rare that I remix or re-imagine another artist’s music. But after decades of sharing our musical experiences through friendship, I was thrilled when Michael urged me to create a new expression of ‘Temple of Desire’ that is truly my own. The original song is already amazing, so the bar was a high mark to reach, but Rafe Pearlman’s evocative lyrics and soulful vocal performance inspired me to explore a new dimension for this track. I love both versions!”

Beauty in Chaos is curated by guitarist Michael Ciravolo, who also happens to be President of Schecter Guitars. With the original version found on ‘The Storm Before The Calm’ LP, this version also features producer Michael Rozon (Ministry) on keys and Gil Sharone (Marilyn Manson) on drums. Directed by Vicente Cordero of Industrialism Films, this video was filmed on location at Tyler Bates’ Abattoir Studio in Studio City, CA.

“I always strive so that each of our videos has a different look and feel.  I love the simplicity of this video, which is further accented by Vicente’s use of black & white.  It is certainly the polar opposite of our last video ‘A Kind Cruelty’ (The Sinistrality Mix)’, says Michael Ciravolo.

“I’ve known Tyler since his days in Pet and he quickly became one of my best friends.  Along with BIC producer Michael Rozon, Tyler is one of the best all-around musicians I know.  It has been a joy to watch him become one of the biggest composers in film and television.  I give them both all the credit of introducing Rafe Pearlman to our BIC Family.  I didn’t know what to expect from Rafe in this video as a performer, but he proved to be quite expressive and engaging.  I think this video captures an element of fun in making music.  Hell, even the name of the remix is a bit of an inside joke! About the next video, it will be out before the holidays and the pendulum will swing 180!”

On the ‘Out of Chaos Comes…’ LP, BIC turns the creative reins over to an extremely talented cast of producers, artists and DJs, including Tim Palmer (The Mission, U2, David Bowie), John Fryer (Cocteau Twins, HIM, Depeche Mode), The Cure’s Roger O’Donnell, EDM star Bentley Jones, and Marilyn Manson guitarist Paul Wiley.

Earlier, Beauty in Chaos previewed Tim Palmer‘s ‘A Kind Cruelty’ (The Sinistrality Mix)’, featuring Curse Mackey (Pigface, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, Evil Mothers) on vocals and an appearance by guitarist Simon Hinkler (The Mission).

The full 27-track collection (available on CD) is deep and diverse and includes a few surprises. Ashton Nyte’s gorgeous acoustic version of ‘The Outside’Cinthya Hussey (whose beautiful painting also graces the cover) does a beautiful rendition of ‘The Delicate Balance Of All Things’, and an acoustic/mellotron drenched ‘Memory Of Love’ from Human Drama’s Johnny Indovina.  You will even find some new and fantastic guitar moments from The Mission’s Simon Hinkler, Richard Fortus (Guns N’ Roses), Mark Gemini Thwaite (Peter Murphy. The WonderStuff), and Nick Johnston.

An Exclusive Interview with Ashton Nyte (The Week in #Indie Segment)

Ashton Nyte has recently released his album and companion book titled ‘Waiting For A Voice’. This is a wonderful interview, to say the least. More of a conversation, actually. What we get is that voice we’ve all been waiting for. And that voice is the type of voice we need in this day and age. I’m not talking phonetically. I mean spiritually. Musically.

Both the album and book are from the mind of someone who observes and interprets. The songs are the music that sews the heart to the sleeve and the book is a brilliant and compassionate collage of lyrics, poetry, and autobiographical segments. And the result is a medium of solitary substance that, I hope, the listener inherits as much as they ingest.

And what we get today is that deep conversation with Ashton, where we talk about the album and book ‘Waiting For A Voice’ and get in-depth about both an introverted human being giving the world a voice we’ve been needing but also that inspiration that we can use to move forward.

Take a look at what ‘Waiting For A Voice’ is and get a copy HERE.

ASHTON NYTE’S ‘WAITING FOR A VOICE’

Dubbed the “lovechild of Johnny Cash and Nick Cave” by NPR, the new work sees Nyte blending poetry with haunting acoustic minimalism, animated by his rich, diverse baritone voice. Waiting For A Voice, Nyte’s 7th solo album was largely written and recorded after his 36 date European tour with Wayne Hussey (The Mission) concluded in October last year and features his most personal songwriting to date.

The album contains 11 original songs, written, performed, and produced by Nyte, along with an intimate rendition of David Bowie’s “Heroes,” dedicated to Nyte’s father, who passed earlier this year. The accompanying 134pg book expands on themes explored on the album, and is available in hardcover and paperback, along with vinyl, CD and digital versions of the album.

“In quiet desperation, I pulled the words aside To cover up the violence That blurred my aching my mind. And gazing through the portholes Deafened by the noise I spoke into the ocean I’m waiting for a voice.”

Beauty in Chaos – Stranger (ft. Kat Leon)

Beauty in Chaos release the new video for the track titled ‘Stranger’ from ‘The Storm Before The Calm‘ album. This time around partnering with Holy Wars/Pep Squad member Kat Leon, BIC Curator Michael Ciravolo takes a mellow turn and really finds that special place between disarray and serenity. The chemistry between Michael and Kat is symbiotic in the fact that their talents within their craft complement each other on an almost spiritual level. The sustained guitar almost sings and answers Kat forming an interaction that is left to the imagination.

The video is an almost auspicious merger of the song and the meaning of giving the impression of slight sadness and subtle hope. Directed by Leslie Gladney, the video for ‘Stranger’, to me, is a subtle creative departure that further highlights what I have said in the past few months; Beauty in Chaos is in a state of change. This is the time to listen.

We recently asked Kat and Michael a few questions about ‘Stranger’ and more. Read on to get more of the details as well as what is coming up from Kat and Michael below!

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE SONG AND THE VIDEO ‘STRANGER’?

Michael Ciravolo: I am going to defer to Ms, Leon on the lyrics as they are very personal and close to her. They do resonate deeply with me, and I am really happy that the musical soundscape Michael Rozon and I crafted led her down the path to writing this. To me, the video was meant to do convey a cinematic backdrop to her telling the story … her story.

Kat Leon: Stranger is a special song to me as it was the first song since my “Mother Father” EP in Holy Wars that touches on grief and life after loss. It has been a while since a song made me feel connected to expressing such deep and personal feeling again but when I heard this track by Beauty in Chaos, there wasn’t anything more fitting. This song focuses on the internal feeling of losing disconnection with myself and the struggle and search for finding my identity again through acceptance. This video gives an intimate look into this feeling.

WHAT WAS IT LIKE WORKING WITH EACH OTHER AND HOW DID THAT COME TO BE?

Michael Ciravolo: I was on YouTube watching a live clip of one of our longtime Schecter bands, Papa Roach, and it turns out her band, Holy Wars opened the show. I went down the YouTube ‘rabbit hole’ and got to a video of her and her guitarist, Nick Perez doing sort of a mash-up of NIN’s ‘Closer’ and Zeppelin’s ‘Whole Lotta Love’. I was certainly intrigued and dug further and really feel in love with her voice and lyrics on her songs. I simply reached out … and now we have ‘Stranger’!

Kat Leon: It was so easy to work with Michael. He is so supportive and gives a lot of freedom for me to create over something beautiful and I feel it was a perfect fit. I told him I wanted to write these lyrics that were so personal and he really made me feel comfortable to explore some of the saddest thoughts I have. We actually met online after a video I did where I covered a mashup of NIN’s “Closer” with Led Zeppelin’s “Whole lotta Love”. He was very complimentary of my performance and asked if I would be interested in singing on one of his tracks. And the rest was history. Since then, he has become like family to me and Holy Wars’ Nick Perez.

YOU BOTH HAVE A UNIQUE SOUND TOGETHER, DO YOU THINK IT’S POSSIBLE TO DO ANOTHER COLLABORATION IN THE FUTURE?

Michael Ciravolo: Like most of the BIC collaborations, this was pure creative joy. ‘Stranger’ came together really easy and natural. I strategically placed ‘Stranger’ as the album’s final cut, which to my ears ends this record perfectly. To jump ahead a bit, which is what my brain does, I plan this to lead into the next studio album which I would plan to be with all female singers. I would absolutely love to work with Kat again, maybe even this time on a heavier track.

Kat Leon: Definitely. In some ways, “Stranger” felt like its own thing on the album and so I would surely be interested in doing another collaboration in the future.

WHERE DO YOU THINK ‘STRANGER’ WILL GO CREATIVELY WHEN IT IS REMIXED FOR THE NEXT ALBUM?

Michael Ciravolo: To let a bit of the proverbial ‘cat’ out the bag, ‘Stranger’ has certainly been to the most requested song to remix from the new album. It is so open and can be taken in a lot of different directions. I actually just got a remix today from someone in a pretty big band that took it in sort of an ambient/trance route .. and it works beautifully. I think the remix styles will run the gamut on this one. We are already discussing a video concept with one of them.

Kat Leon: I can’t wait to hear what everyone’s interpretation of the song is but I am expecting to hear some dark, industrial vibes and some trailer epic sounds as well.

WHAT ARE YOU BOTH WORKING ON NOW BESIDES BIC?

Michael Ciravolo: I’ve been fortunate to have been invited by Wayne Hussey to part of the ReMission International project. This is a great bunch of artists, many who take up a large part of my record collection that have come together to record a version of The Mission classic ‘Tower Of Strength’, with 100% of monies earned going to Covid-19 charities. I never would have dreamed of being on a track with Gary Numan, Martin Gore, Midge Ure, Bill Duffy, Julianne Regan; and this is just a few involved. The song and a few cool remixes will be out on August 28th.

BIC producer Michael Rozon will be working next month with Silence In The Snow at our SAINTinLA Studio. They are a great dup that know you have covered. Cyn M. has asked me to possibly add some textures on the tracks, so that will be fun as I do really like the band. She and I have also started a song that will certainly be part of the ‘all-female’ concept I mentioned above.

Kat Leon: I am about to release a single called “IHATEMYSELF” in Holy Wars.  A song that is been highly anticipated by our fans. We’ve been playing it live for the last year and has been the song everyone keeps asking us when it will be released so I am very excited to get this one out. I also released a solo EP under Kat Leon of a collection of songs for film and tv and debuted a project Pep Squad.

Recorded at Ciravolo’s own SAINTinLA Studio, this album was recorded, mixed, and produced by Michael Rozon, Grammy-nominated for his work with Ministry.

Earlier, Beauty in Chaos previewed several tracks from this record, including ‘A Kind Cruelty’ featuring Curse Mackey (Pigface, My Life With The Thrill Kill Kult, Evil Mothers), ‘The Delicate Balance of All Things’ featuring The Mission frontman Wayne Hussey, and ‘Almost Pure’ featuring Steven Seibold of industrial-synth-punk legends Hate Dept. and the Martin Atkins-led Pigface. I am in complete awe of the amazing artists; some returning, some new that have lent their voices and words to make this record possible. And I‘m eternally grateful to our growing BIC FAMILY that continue this journey with us,” says BIC curator mastermind Michael Ciravolo.

“To me, ‘The Storm Before The Calm’ represents a rewind and a fast-forward. Rewind to the ‘80s and the great albums that lived on my turntable, that set a mood, a vibe… even the feeling of temperature.. as well as a crystal ball, look into the next evolution of Beauty In Chaos.  Beauty wrapped in chaos. Dark, but always, with a light”.
