An Exclusive Interview with Broken Robots (The Week in #Indie Segment)

Jammerzine has an exclusive interview with one of my new favorites in the Chicago scene. I’m talking about Broken Robots.

Broken Robots are a band that, not only has an absolutely stellar and original EP coming out this Friday titled ‘The Escape Artist’, they are a band that is earning their way and putting their life into every song. What I mean by that is their talents as musicians and songwriters count on chronicling their life and experiences. And this comes out in such a beautiful and creative way that their music demands a listen. Not hear. A listen.

In this interview, we talk about some of those experiences and how they have shaped the musicians, and people, that they have become as well as their music has evolved into what it is. A masterpiece.

An Interview with Information Society (The Week in #Indie Segment)

Jammerzine has an exclusive interview with the absolute legends of synth-pop, electronic, MTV Generation, and, above all, original music, in the form of Information Society. Today we talk to Paul Robb, co-founder of INSOC, and their new album titled ‘ODDFellows’. What makes ODDFellows special is, and you will get the information about this in the interview, that this is a spatial collaboration with THX. Yes, that THX. The ones that make everything sound cool and rich. This is, in fact, the first collaboration between THX and a musical artist. And this is one of the many reasons INSOC is considered pioneers in the music industry. Not just to be the first, but to be willing to take the risk.

And, in regards to ‘ODDFellows’, we get plenty of risks. As stated in the interview, there are times where this is a different band and there are times where classic INSOC is there at the forefront. And, to be that original after all of these years is what makes them last. Because it’s fun.

‘ODDFellows’ releases on August 6th (Hakatak International (digital); and Negative Gain Records (CD/vinyl); release date: TBA).

La Fleur Fatale Release ‘Skydancer’ Video (The Week in #Indie Segment)

La Fleur Fatale has released their new video for the track titled ‘Skydancer’. Psychadelic in scope and beautiful in grandeur, La Fleur Fatale takes that underground psych and social status as one of the kings of the underground and solidifies that as the next level of their career. Who knew that cool underground could be so catchy?

Faultress Premieres ‘Sleep Child’ (The Week in #Indie Segment)

Faultress has premiered her new single titled ‘Sleep Child’ on Jammerzine. Faultress is an artist that, in my opinion, was most likely originated from that first note she gave to the world. And, with ‘Sleep Child’, that is only asserted even more. ‘Sleep Child’ has a dark and brooding sound. An emotional statement wrapped in a cinematic declaration in an almost operatic way, emotionally. Think Kate Bush meets subtle early Nine Inch Nails. To be honest, I actually thought the song was shorter than it was because of the way the music and Faultress’ beautiful vocals carry you. But no. The song is almost four minutes. When you lose track of time, it’s because you got lost in the moment. This was a moment.

Evidence Releases ‘Pardon Me’ Single (The Week in #Indie Segment)

Evidence has released his new single and video titled ‘Pardon Me’, from his upcoming album ‘Unlearning Vol. 1’. Laid back and leaned into, ‘Pardon Me’ delves into the mind of a musician as he releases his inner thoughts and trials of life. A lesson for all within the lyrics, the smooth backbeat makes a subtle message of life lessons learned and those learned better appreciated as Evidence appreciates all he’s earned and those around him.

Evidence’s new album, ‘Unlearning Vol. 1’, drops June 25th.

Royals Release Video for ‘Jaded’ (The Week in #Indie Segment)

Royals have released their new single and video titled ‘Jaded’. Those first few notes make it obvious that Royals are master songwriters. The hook is strong and the song is solid. But there’s a message behind the music, and it is solid. The song is a lesson and a guide in this trying time of isolation and COVID. We are all there, whether we are still trying to figure out our new lives or we are resigned. ‘Jaded’ sings that we are not alone, and that change is here. We can all make our strength that strength of adapting, and learn that we are not alone, even if we are jaded.

An Interview with Jonny Kosmo (The Week in #Indie Segment)

Jonny Kosmo has given an exclusive interview to Jammerzine. I announce that because, when you hear his music, you will see. This artist is a true original. From his music to his life and everywhere in between.

And, in this interview, we talk about his new album titled ‘Pastry’, to be released June 4th on Feeding Tube Records and Dinosaur City Records (AUS). We also talk about his innovative video from ‘Pastry’, for the song ‘Fool’, featuring animation with personality by Peter Nichols.

Whatever your musical tastes are, I think it is safe to say that you will find space on your plate for Jonny Kosmo. His music comes from that part in all of us that wants to know our individuality and inner child. Jonny has found both and made them partners.

“There are two sides to every coin. “Fool” is about how our character struggles can also be our greatest assets. In this case, it is love and connection with another that allows the defensiveness and protection of the fool archetype to shift to that of a fool for life. I aimed to capture the movement from the rigidity of taking ourselves too seriously to the humor of being human.  This song is accompanied by a video made by Kevin Kearney, Peter Nichols (animation), and myself.”

Dope Saggitarius Release Video for ‘Black Empress’ (The Week in #Indie Segment)

Dope Sagittarius has released their video for the track titled ‘Black Empress’ featuring Mike Ladd. Presented as a giant fusion fueled ‘funk you’ to the masses with a sonic cleansing and rebuilding of originality on a level not heard since the great Sun Ra.

Kurtis Hoppie Releases New Video for ‘Vegan Burgers’ (The Week in #Indie Segment)

Kurtis Hoppie has released his new video for the track titled ‘Vegan Burgers’. A unique track featuring Kurtis’ original rap cadence and lyrical phrasing way left of the creativity side, ‘Vegan Burgers’ transcends the rap genre into pop with a killer sense for songwriting proving that a hook can be a monster.

The video is a story with heart and a visual with art and fits perfectly to the beat of the track. A video track for the sound.

Kirlian Camera Releases ‘The 8th President’ Video (The Week in #Indie Segment)

Kirlian Camera has released their new video for the track titled ‘The 8th President’. While maintaining their dark presence that has become signature for Kirlian Camera over many years, they have also brought forth an original, almost dystopian visual and audio aesthetic within the video that demands attention. Think of the movie ‘Blade Runner’ when I say this. It’s almost world-building.

The tack is all that one would expect from Kirlian Camera and, in some ways, more. There is a brooding, slow-burning underbelly to ‘The 8th President’ that, in some ways, reflects the current state of isolation and loneliness brought on by the current state of the world. Reflective of the things that are, Kirlian Camera gives a soundtrack to this that leaves more questions than answers and, while most current creativeness shows us what we could be, this shows us what we are. Brilliant.
