An Exclusive Interview With Bettie Serveert

Bettie Serveert is a four-piece comprised of Carol van Dyk (vocals and guitar), Peter Visser (guitar), Herman Bunskoeke (bass guitar) and Joppe Molenaar (drums). The first three members are all from the original band lineup.

Since starting everything with their classic ‘Palomine’ LP, the band is celebrating their 25th Anniversary this year with the vinyl release of this album.

‘Damaged Good’ is one of ‘The Betties’ most diverse albums so far, including 11 tracks ranging from 60 seconds to an 8 min epos and everything in between. This album experience is intense, raw and tender, but it is also passionate and fierce.

It was recorded and mixed with Jesse Beuker, with whom Canadian-born vocalist Carol van Dyk and lead guitarist Peter Visser have worked before on their Australian project ‘Me & Stupid’, and mastered by Darius van Helfteren. This collection of 11 tracks also includes the rock duet ‘Love Sick’ with Peter te Bos, vocalist from the famous Dutch band Claw Boys Claw.

Apart from being Record Store Day, April 22 is also significant for two other reasons: this is the birthday of Betties’ vocalist Carol Van Dyk, and Bettie Serveert wrap up their touring season that evening with a final show at the Paradiso Club in Amsterdam. Schoolkids Records will also be presenting one other Record Store Day release this year – the ‘Symmetry/ Slow Drag’ 7″ from North Carolina-NYC shoegaze pioneers The Veldt.

Caesaria Premiere Wavin’ Goodbye

Caesaria draws its origins from the new English-rock wave. Armed with their punchy electro-pop music, the band had already raised interest in 2015 with its first EP Sparks of visions.

Caesaria’s music is a playground for dancing and dynamic experimentations, they mix the vocal harmonies of a devilishly efficient pop-music with more recent electronic sounds brilliantly.

Powerful guitar riffs add the cherry on top to this savant mixture: the crowd wants more.

Fiery and simply mind-blowing, the four French « kids », led by the label from Strasbourg Try & Dye Records, continue to play in festivals, for musical springboards and as prime parts, attracting after each gig new enthusiasts that are caught by an unstoppable need to dance their hips off.

Caesaria’s burning and contagious energy on stage is illustrated by their victories in many musical springboards (RTL2 in 2015, Music on Stage and Printemps des grandes écoles in 2016).

It has led the inexhaustible band to play on several big stages such as doing Naive New Beaters’ first part (La Laiterie – Strasbourg), Printemps de Bourges’s festival or les Eurockeennes de Belfort, pursuing the universal and timeless goal : to make bodies shake.

On Wavin’ Goodbye, the band said:

“This song is a story about a dying person who stands back on his life. He puts in perspective what he did, look at the others in the way they act and realize that they do not enjoy life as they should. It’s a pretty sad song but the message is to celebrate life as long as you can. The music video spreads this message by focusing on a transsexual. We wanted to give another perspective to this message and show that some people start a new life in their lifetime, such as transsexuals”.

An Interview With Nadine Zureikat

Nadine Zureikat is always an absolute pleasure to talk with. She is funny, intelligent, to-the-point, and talented. Very, very talented. In the last couple of years that we here at Jammerzine have followed her career, she has crossed genres with no effort whatsoever (seriously, just check out the diversity in her work in the videos below!), created a marketing firm, and has collaborated with some of the top musical talent in the world. And now we get to talk with her again! I say talk, not an interview, because it is always fun talking with Nadine. She’s genuine. And that’s what counts in today’s world.

This time around we talk about her continuing evolution as an artist as well as her new single collaboration “Take Me Away” by Sekondo, as well as where she plans on taking her career next. Plus we have a few laughs, as always.

Partisan Premieres ‘Too Late’

Beginning with the momentum that began with “Two Lovers”, Partisan continue their evolution of revolution with their new single titled “Too Late”. Partisan has always been a band that I personally have, not only enjoyed but respect musically.

Partisan have always had the habit of adding intrigue, musically interesting hooks, and just enough influence to make Partisan a sure contender as a truly established act for the next generation of aspiring artists. Yes, folks, I I have said many times before, Partisan’s sh*t is THAT together. Just listen. You can hear it in our interview with Stuart Armstrong, Partisan’s killer vocal-piece.

To hear Partisan is to love Partisan, and we now have yet another example of such. The chorus for “Too Late” is spacious and breathtaking, the intro and first verse build up to the chorus like a good story, and the crescendo also serves as an “I’ll be back” to the listener to prove, yet again, that it’s never too late to be a Partisan.

Rum Thief Premieres ‘Time to Make a Move’

Rum Thief is solo artist Jot Green with support from his band members Kieran Whitehouse on lead guitar, Gary Long on bass and Chris Hobbs on drums. Based in Chorlton, Manchester, the project began when Green, a drummer in bands for over ten years, decided to record some songs of his own. Booking into Manchester’s Airtight Studio, he played the drums, guitars, vocals and backing vocals on his first EP ‘Clouded Mind’. The titular lead track generated interest from media outlets across the north-west and, with the help of his bandmates, Rum Thief secured local gigs, festivals, support slots and airplay on the local and national radio.

Rum Thief’s second EP ‘Reach For The Weather Man’, characterised by Jot Green’s keen ear for melody and sharp observational lyrical content received widespread critical acclaim from the likes of Fred Perry Subculture and much more notable media outlets around the world. After successfully headlining the Manchester Ritz he got down to recording this third EP ‘Time To Make A Move ‘ at the legendary Hackney Road Studio with producer Shuta Shinoda (Ghost Poet ‘Shedding Skin’).

An Interview With San Eco

When creativity meets originality you have some damn good music. But that is a rare occurrence. So it is particularly pleasing to see it incarnate. And that is in the form of U.K. duo San Eco. Formed by the merging of Morris Cowan and Tom Edney, San Eco is the end result of two unique minds verging on musical brilliance.

And today we talk to one-half of that melting pot with Tom. And we get the origin story and creative process explained as well as a glimpse into the future of all that is San Eco.

Scott Swain – ‘Like Nothing Else’ Video Premiere

Scott says: “This song is written about the film ‘Event Horizon’. I remember being blown away when I first saw this film. It’s a slow burner, in so far as it takes some time for things to get going (essential for the tension to build), but when it does get going things go from intense to just damn dark!

Enlightenment is always sold to us as a positive thing which arises from discipline, dedication, and peaceful reflection; in this film, however, Dr Weir (Sam Neil) gains enlightenment through utter darkness, from literally going to hell and coming out on the other side.

The mistake he makes, in my opinion, is letting this darkness consume and control him. We all have darkness in us – call it Thanatos if you want – however, we don’t have to let this eat us up and destroy us”.

An Interview with Jurassic 5’s Soup J5

Soup J5 has worked hard for what he has become in life. Very Hard. You can easily see the fruits of his labor in the form of Jurassic 5. But maintaining is just as hard as achieving. And Soup proves that he can do that just as well with his solo effort, ‘Still In Fullee Love’. The EP is stellar. But that’s just the beginning. He also has a full-length album titled ‘Free, White & 21’ waiting in the wings.

In this interview, we get a grip on how Soup began his career as well as how he continues to stay so original in today’s music world. It’s a hard feat but, as you can hear with his new single ‘All Around The World’, Soup’s talents are eternal. Enjoy!

The G-O-D – Mad Bad And Dangerous To Know

With a raucous beat and hook-driven chord progression, The G-O-D solidify their place in the new #indie scene with their latest track “Mad Bad And Dangerous To Know”. You would think with a title like that, that very title would be impossible to fit into a song, but you have to listen to the genius way that very title fits seamlessly into the chorus in a way that will have you singing it to yourself hours after hearing it for the first time.

The video itself is a documentation of the time you will have at a G-O-D show, with fun, funk, and rhythm to be had by all. The G-O-D is, as much as they are relevant; fun. This is a cool band to follow, with the mersey-cool-funk-beat of Si Wolstencroft and the guitar-powered-sarcastically-fun-vocals of Chris Bridgett. It’s time to meet your new music maker in The G-O-D.

The Goood Things – Yer Eyes

Keeping up with their ongoing fun and carefree pop rock roots, Japan’s own The Goood Things, triumph yet again with another alt-indie future classic. How these guys (and girl) can continually come up with goood (see what I did there?) songs is a magic I wish I had a bottle of. This song is 2:36 of pure catchy fun!

Amped up to 10 with that goood (oops I did it again!) time summer fun, “Yer Eyes” delivers that beach romp nostalgia filled with cool daily waves and hot summer nights. Cue Avalon and Funicello!
